Maytag Legacy MAV208DAWW Top Load Washer - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Getting lint and scaly deposit on sides of tub even after several cleaning cycles. why?
Check that your water conditioner is working and removing hard ions from your water. Also the scaling you are seeing is likely solidified to the tub surface and needs a more abrasive cleaning method, like a brush with stiff bristles, or even steel wool. Chances were that the water level was high enough for some time to allow the scaling to build up and solidify and thicken to the point where it cannot dissolve with detergents or other chemicals.
How to remove front panel

Hot water won't run into
G'day. The hoses from your laundry taps hook up to your machine onto what are called solenoids. These are like electrical taps. The machine decides when to turn these on and off and in what order via the timer and depending on what modes are selected.
Generally there is a hot and cold solenoid. If you have both hot and cold hooked up to your machine, you can simply swap these hoses around (put the hot tape on the cold solenoid and vis-versa) Then when you select cold, you'll actually be getting hot.
Some new machines heat water internally like dishwashers, and they only have one solenoid. Again if you put the hot tape only on, you will get hot water with cold selected.
In both solutions you are losing the option for cold or hot cycles with a click of a button - now you must swop hoses...
Washer wont cycle thru
There is either a kicker solenoid that fires every minute to kick a
gear, or a tiny AC 60Cycle Induction motor in there that probably
burned out. You will need to fix by replacing that solenoid or motor,
or the entire timer.
A spider or bug could also nave gotten in there and stopped the motor rotating 60x a second, but if a solenoid it burned out.
Timers cost $30-80.00 and can be bought at Sears, or a good appliance parts store (online too) all you need is model and serial#
Good Luck
I am having difficulties replacing
Hi.
Disconnect power cord or trip circuit breaker. Unplug the water hoses
after turning off the water supply. Using a screwdriver, release and lift up the
washer top panel. Using needle nose pliers, disconnect the wires from the old valve, and undo the hose that feeds water into the tub.
From the back of the washer, I undo the screw holding the valve in
place. Remove the old valve. Connect electrical wires and hose to the new inlet valve before
installing the valve. Screw the valve back in place and reattach the hot and cold water hoses, close the top of the washer,
turn on the water supply, and connect power back.
Below a diagram. The valve is part 14. Click on the picture to enlarge.

Load starts banging like it is unbalanced
Check first the machine balance, to ensure the machine is at level and well balanced and that is not the problem.
If you already inspected springs and strut, then the problem is usually the drum bearing, or the drum bearing spider that has broken.
You can superficially check if there is a problem with the drum bearing by spinning the drum with the hand to check if there is excessive play.
If you found oil under the machine, check also that the support for the motor and motor gear box under the bearing is not damaged, and any of this part is banging again the chassis, this can cause oil leak, and machine shaking.
The most common is a bad bearing.
My Maytag top loading washer Won't Spin
The lid switch may be defective. If it is, the washing machine doesn't spin. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.Here is the part you need.
