I have a 4400CL. Everything seems to be working

I had the same problem. It turned out to be the lower control board. It is easy to replace and you can order it online. I payed about $65.00 after returning the old board.

When I stop stepping, the

Pull the lower covers off.Disconnect the white and brown wires from the alternator.Begin stepping. When you stop stepping see if the display remains on instead of shutting off.If it stays on then it is probably the lower control board. National Gym suppliers have them for about $65.00 if you return the old board. This is how I fixed the same problem on my 4600CL.Also...an additional problem I had that changing the board solved was the resistance level was stuck at highest(hardest) level. After changing board was able to change levels in addition to the console remaining on when stopping.

Remove console knobs form the back of the console, lift the up, and disconnect the 20 pin cable from the console. Get a multi meter go to dc volts 100v range. When Looking at the connector the connector nipple should be pointing left starting form the bottom left odds numbers right bottom even you will hunt for pin 1 Neg pin 10 Pos. If all voltage readings are within 12 to 19 volts and the console is not powering up , then either replace or have the console repaired.

My Stairmaster will not increase speed until level 8. Is this normal?

Typically, the stair master should gradually increase in speed from lower levels. If it's not speeding up until level 8, there might be a malfunction. It could be a setting or technical issue. Have you checked the manual or contacted customer support?
