I need the configuration code

Display reads CONFIG RQRD or NTM CONFIG RQD on Stairmaster Equipment Probable Cause The message CONFIG RQRD or NTM CONFIG RQD appears when the console needs to be configured for the machine type it is installed. This message is common when the console has been replaced or if the settings have been changed. Message is commonly seen on various Stairmaster equipment such as bike models 3000CE, 3300CE, 3400CE, 3600RC, 3800RC and 3900RC; stepper models 4400PT, 4600PT, 4400CL, 4600CL and SC916; stepmill models 7000PT and SM916; elliptical model ClubStride 5100. Corrective Action
  • Make sure the unit is in an "idle" state. "Idle" state means the console is not displaying an error or any message that requires data input. The display should basically be freshly powered up, scrolling the EKG or welcome message
  • Configure the console for the proper machine type by pressing Level UP, 80, ENTER
  • Using the Level UP or Level DOWN keys, scroll through to the proper machine type (Bike, Elliptical, Stairclimber or Stepmill)
  • Once the proper machine type is shown on the display select the machine type by pressing ENTER
  • This completes the steps necessary when your Stairmaster display reads CONFIG RQRD or NTM CONFIG RQD

I have a StepMill 7000 PT that has a problem of

This video covers the electronic troubleshooting for a complaint of No Resistance on the Stairmaster Stepmill 916.Tools Needed: Multi Meter, Assistant for Testing Purposes It is necessary to begin by removing the user's right side cover to gain access to lower control board and alternator for testing purposes.
  • Using your multi meter on the volts setting, you will place your black meter lead to the Ground test point on the lower board and place your red meter lead into the back of the cable connector where the brown wire is located. Have your assistant step onto the steps. Voltage should be present. If no voltage is present, check all cables. If cables check out, the console should be replaced. If voltage was present, it is time to move to the next test point.
  • Place your black meter lead to the Ground test point and the red meter lead to the Tach test point. Have your assistant step onto the steps. Voltage should be present. If no voltage is present, the alternator brushes should be replaced. If voltage was present, it is time to move to the next test point.
  • Next component to test for a no resistance issue is the load resistor. You will be testing for .5 -.7 ohms. Place the red meter lead to the white wire connected to the load resistor and the black meter lead to the black wire. If the proper value is not found when the load resistor is tested, it should be replaced.
You have now tested the entire electrical circuit. If the problem still exists, you have a mechanical failure or you should verify the results of your testing. Troubleshooting Video for No Resistance on Stairmaster Stepmill SM916

Why does my stairmaster run normaly for a few minutes then spin freely then run normal again?

This could just be a common wear issue. Over time, much like brake pads on a car, the brushes in the alternator wear down to the point that they only make efficient enough contact part of the time. The attached video shows where the brushes are located and how to change them. Stairmaster Alternator Brush Replacement Video

Randomly speeds up

This could be something as simple as the alternator brushes. The alternator is what provides the resistance on this machine. The following link will provide further information about this. Stairmaster Alternator Brush Replacement Video

When plugged in breaker on powersupply trips

What I would suggest is first unplug unit then on the power board you have 3 connections start with the alternator unplug it then plug back the power supply if it pops the breaker then go to the next connector and untill it does not pop breaker a process of elimination then you can determine the area of the short.

Will not speed up

ensure all wiring connections are tight . go through your manual and verify all settings for your machine. make sure the console is programed for the stepmill and not another machine as this console is used on many other types of machines .check the console keys by entering the appropriate code from the manual to ensure a key is not "stuck" and all are ok. if still an issue then check your alternator by entering the appropriate code into your console from the manual

When my wife uses the

The problem may lie in your wife's low weight - she just doesn't have enough weight to move the stairs at that resistance ( my wife weighs 100 lbs and can't get it to move at a high level). If she can hold some weights in her hands and have ankle weights on, she will be able to move the steps faster.
Hope this helps!!
