Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I've looked at about every DV 20 version parts list and cannot find a part 16 that would create any difficulty in removing. All are either gears, pins, or the plate that goes under the switch. from the way you are describing it it sounds like the only possibility would be the Model DV 20VB which has a spindle which has to be unscrewed from the drill chuck it is held in by a retaining clip that you would need retaining ring pliers to remove.

if it has small holes where the wires are get a paper clip and straighten one end and push into the hole while GENTLY pulling on the wire. Make note of the wiring first before removing.

They have issues with there switches.Depending on model # check for recall. This is a safety issue.

How old is the tool, it might be under warranty, but of not there are about 10 screws on the housing half remove all them and the pin in the back. The motor is a 2 piece unit consisting of the armature/rotor and the field/case along with the brush ring. carefully separate the housing half and then determine which parts if "fried" If you need a breakdown on this tool go to Hitachipowertools.com and type in the model number.
