Kirby shampooer dispensing - NOT a filter problem
I had the same problem and I called my local Kirby guy, he's great, helped me when I thought I blew my kirby up, it was just a cord and he wa able to tell me that over the phone. When I called him with this problem, he knew right away that it was only putting out a thin strip in the middle only. The first thing was I needed that little screen, the second was the hole where the screen goes has a white tube that goes from that hole to the bottom of the tank, its kinda in the corner and I never thought it would have anything to do with the problem. He said I needed to run hot water in it and clean it cuz I was going to have to blow in it, yes, with my mouth. I ran it under hot water for a few minutes and then with hot water in the hole, blew into it. I did this a few times, checking the tube ending each time. After a few times, water was shooting freely through the tube. Problem solved, I think, I'll be shampooing tonight so i'll know for sure then. An alternative to blowing with your mouth would be using a can of air, didnt think of it till now and I have 1!
The outer vacuum bag stink. We were told it could be washed. Is that true?
Yes. You can take the filter bag off the Kirby. just press the button at the top of the bag to release the bag, and just unscrew it at the base... and hand was in warm water using some nice smelly detergent.... hang out in the sun to dry..... and replace the paper filter bag more often.... I need to as I have 3 dogs and the dog hair does smell after a few days inside the filter bag, so I replace the filter bags quite often to stop any smelling... Bugbuyer
Sparks from the Kirby Motor
1. Do you think this may be the problem?YES
2. How come it continues to rotate?Motor armature consists of multiple coils and just some of them burned so even though it keeps spinning it does not function properly.
3. Do I need to replace the armature?
We have switch replacement instructions HERE and they will take you as far as accessing the motor. We do not have motor assembly instructions yet but if you get that far - motor is not that hard to reassemble. You may have to spend some time getting tolerance ring back in and make sure you install finger spring properly.
Good Luck
The auto drive doesnt work. The lever even fell off the back.
Its not a simple fix, it will involve some disassembly of the motor unit, especially if the mechanism would not change from neutral to drive. One of the vac experts at vacuumland.org, a collector and enthusiast website, may be able to provide detailed instructions with pictures.
Green light flickering!
only use a genuine kirby belt. not copys that are sold on the web. it sounds like one of the end bearings is jammed with human hairs, remove end cap and cut out with a stanly blade
Ok, my kirby just stopped working. I had someone
When was your Kirby made? If you have an older Kirby, inside where the motor lies is a single or double magnet with a spring coil attached to it. Within that coil is a filament wire held together with a shiny disk at other end. This filament does go bad from time to time and needs to be replaced. This usually is not a do it yourself job. If you can find the proper filament, you might but usually there are several types and sizes, let your local distributor change it for you.
Kirby sparks and smells
it probably needs new carbon brushes in the motor,DO NOT run anymore for fear of burning motor out.
