Kirby G5 gearbox clicks, why?
most of the time the small fork that comes off of the transmission and connects to the top slide wears out which doesnt allow the transmission to engage properly
My kirby is shorting out when i plug it in and
It sounds like you have a short in the wire. At some point the wire was partially cut or it has broken inside the case due to bending. If it is sparking, you need to fix it before you use it or it will blow something in the machine by surging power to it or possibly set your carpet on fire rather than clean it. if you are comfortable fixing it yourself you can carefully cut the insulation casing away from the wires; don't remove it just cut a slit in it so you can access the wires inside. you will want to cut the wire completely where the short is. You will want to strip the two ends and reattach them then wrap them with electrical tape. try not to cut way too much or you will have a problem that one wire is significantly shorter than the other. Then just fold the insulation case back over the wires and wrap the entire section with a healthy amount of electrical tape and you should be good. or you can simply replace the entire wire. If you still have a warranty you can ask if this is covered. If not you can purchase a new wire online.

Carpet shampoo system
MY FIRST QUESTION IS WHAT BRAND OF SHAMPOO ARE YOU USING??? KIRBY IS NOTED FOR REQUIRING ONLY, KIRBY SHAMPOO. PART OF THE REASON IS THAT THEY HAVE A UNIQUE FORMULA THAT WORKS SPECIFICALLY WITH THE KIRBY.
THE OTHER POSSIBILITY IS THE DISPENSER IS PLUGGED AND NEEDS A REAL GOOD CLEANING. ALSO, WHEN APPLYING THE FOAM TO THE CARPET, YOU NEED TO GO REALLY, REALLY SLOW.
THE NARROW BAND OF SUDS DOES INDICATE YOU MAY BE MOVING THE DISPENSER TOO FAST. GOOD LUCK.
My Kirby shampooer wont foam
Start with the hose OFF the tank (make sure small filter is in place).Fill the tank with water and KIRBY DRY SHAMPOO (other shampoo's wont foam) then turn the vacuum on. At this time the shampoo will come out as a stream of foam. If the shampoo come's out as liquid then you will need to check the tank. If shampoo was left in the tank ,then the pick-up hose inside the tank my be colgged. These are hard to un-clogg so replacement of the tank may be needed.
