Greenlee GT-15 Non-Contact Low Voltage Detector Questions & Answers
How do you change the batteries in a greenlee 1010 tester?
The black cap with pocket clip PULLS off. It does not screw on. May be tight. I used a knife to to pry between the yellow barrel an the cap, to get it started. Pull the cap off and dump the old batteries out. Dispose of the dead batteries appropriately, please. It takes 2 LR44 coin cells, or equivalent. The (+) side of the cells go into the barrel first - both with same orientation, with the (-) ends (the buttons) toward the opening. Then reinstall the cap - line it up so the clip will align with the window in the yellow barrel, then just press it all the way into the yellow barrel. Done.
How do I operate a
there will be a buttom on the tool turn on will beep if you have a good one with a light once on go to a power cord that is plugin to somthing put the tool to the cord it should beep and light up to tell you ther is power thereone side of the cord wont light up because there is a netrual there it will only light up when you hit powere or hot wire if it dosent work the batteries need to be changed i have a couple of these it will save you if you work on power lines good luck
I have a gt-11 detector,
It is detecting Residule voltage off the hot line, your common/Neutral should have no voltage. One thing I have noticed when using many non contacts if you are Holding a live wire (on the insulation)
I have gotten false readings (continous beeps) from the non-contact when checking neutral lines. Unsure as to why but something I have came across when trying to seperate wires while testing.
My Greenlee digital multimeter reads line voltage about twice what it is. What do I need to look for?
Is it possible you are seeing some variation on peak-to-peek voltage vs AC RMS which is more commonly used? Are you positive you were using the proper AC range rather than a DC range? Instead of double it should be more like 1.414 x the actual RMS voltage. If you were using the right range (AC) then your meter probably has an internal diode out. Because of isolation and other safety features in a VOM, factory repair may be preferable to possibly having a less safety aware tech repairing it.
Do you know what kind of meter abuse caused this damage?
Instrument repair has always been a more specialized and demanding arena of electronic repair.
If it's a $25 meter it could easily be more expensive to repair
than to replace with a new one.
This is all general information because you did not specify
which model of Greenlee multimeter you have.
It's easy to blow a VOM by putting it across a circuit when it's
set to the wrong range.
