Pride Jazzy Select batteries not charging

If you use an automotive charger you have to charge each battery individually as they should be 12vdc hooked in series.

Clean contacts and assure yourself that each lead is charging properly. Jazzy has many different models so it impossible to know which you have. But there should be some info on the charger to tell you if your output is 24v or 2-12volt DC leads.

Jazzy has a web site and there is a member section where you can ask questions.

How to unlock Jazzy Select chair so it can start up and run

Turn on the PWC Push the joystick forward and hold for 2 seconds or until you hear a chirp. Push the joystick backward and hold for 2 seconds or until you hear a chirp. Release and there should be a long beep tone, signaling that it is unlocked. Since there are different joystick controllers on these chairs and I don't know exactly which one you have this is my best guess.

Jazzy chair has been sitting for 15 months. It

It sounds like the batteries have gone bad and need to be replaced.

The batteries contain a gel that needs to have current run through it on a regular basis (at least 8 hours once a week) or it will oxidize and solidify. If you attach the charger, what will most likely happen is the green light will either stay green or go to green after a very short time. When you turn on the power chair, nothing happens. The charger will indicate the batteries are full, but instead of being full of power, they are full of crud. Your warranty will most likely not cover replacement as this is due to customer neglect, but your insurance may still cover the replacement batteries if you can wait for the process to go through. Otherwise, you will need to replace the batteries on your own, type U1, 24v 33 amp, approx. $125 each at Batteries Plus or Interstate Battery. Good luck!

I would not recommend you to do this. The batteries that are used for this application are a deep cycle battery. A regular battery may get hot and you will just have problems. Get the correct batteries for the unit. They take U1 32Ah 12V batteries.

My jazzy pulls to the right what is wrong

Does the chair only pull to the right when you are going up an incline or over a threshold? If it appears to be working fine on a flat surface then you may have a motor getting weak. If this happens on all surfaces you may have a few issues. The brake on the right side may not be releasing completely and is dragging. Replacing the brake should fix that issue. The other issue may be that the freewheel engager is disengaged. Engage the wheel and you should be fine. If this fixed the problem and it comes back then you might need a technician to look at it. I have found that the customer had someone else look at the chair/motor to save some money and took the motor off the chair. Normally there are no serviceable parts but if they forget to replace or lose a small spring under the motor engager lever you will experience the chair disengaging under load. If none of this helps. You will need to get a qualified tech to look at the unit.

Power Module or Joystick Module Problem

This is usually a code for a motor disconnect. You probably just accidentally put a motor in freewheel. A more serious issue would be that the controller is not communicating with the motor because a wire had been damaged. Check for any cut wires on the motor cable

My jazzy was sitting for

I strongly suspect your batteries are dead. The unfortunate part is that the gel batteries used in power chairs will not usually take a charge after they are completely depleted. The only solution is to load test the batteries and replace BOTH of them even if only one tests bad. ( I think you'll find that both batteries are dead)

Our father ordered a 600 series chair in 2008.

The chair uses an offboard charger if you are missing the cable that plugs into the wall then any computer type plug will work you should also be able to find one at WalMart. The chair was probably worth $4000.00 paid for by Medicare. Now some nursing homes will allow power chairs and if they have some clients with power chairs at the your Dads home then they have to allow your Dad to use his and to maintain it ie replace batteries etc. if they don't try donating the chair to a local charity or to a provider to use as a loaner chair when working on others chairs. If you donate it to a person then they have to pay for repair costs and repairs can get rather pricy for motors, joysticks, wheels, batteries etc

If you want to you cn e-mail me at [email protected] and I'll give you more info

Hope this helps
