Repair
I'm not sure what happened to yours, but my girlfriends cat puked a big hairball on mine, and there was dried liquid on the outside and around the edges of the top metal plate. I decided to take it apart and see if it needed internal cleaning, but I wasn't sure where to start removing screws. I assumed that the silver hex socket bolts on the top metal plate would allow me to lift the plate, but that was wrong. What it did instead was to allow all of the buttons to start falling out of their holes, and then, it can't be removed due to four bolts under the foot pedals.
Instead, remove the four (4) screws on the back, and the twelve (12) black screws on the bottom, and the top and bottom parts of the unit will come apart. [The side panels can only be removed by removing the side pedal, and then the silver hex socket bolts along that side, but you should never really need to do this. I'm stating this only as a fact because I partially broke one of mine]. In my case, there was only a small amount of liquid that had penetrated to the interior. Once I was inside the unit, I was able to remove a PCB and reinstall the buttons in their respective holes. It wasn't easy, and I had to use cellophane tape to hold to Phantom Power and Stereo/Mono buttons in place, but I got it done.
