Black & Decker 18 Volt Cordless Drill Driver W/ Charger Questions & Answers
I can't release the bit from the chuck.
If it is jammed then hold the bit in a vice and try to knock the chuck off with a cold chisel or suitable piece of brass. then you can remove the chuck screw and replace the chuck. You should not be able to see the bearings underneath.
Nicad battery repair

The drill has stopped charging up. No obvious
It may be the charger, but most likely
the battery can no longer hold a charge.
This may happen if the battery drops
below its holding charge. Example,
left discharge for a couple months.
There is little that can go wrong with a
charger unless you start smelling
burnt plastic from it.
How do replace a chuck on a black-decker cordless
you must open the chuck all the way and the screw is in the back inside the chuck this is a left screw which means its righty loosey and lefty tighty; unlike normal righty tighty and lefty loosey.
Smokes from brushes when trigger is pulled
Time to crack it open and have a look at the brushes at the back of the motor, they may be worn down to nothing or contaminated with something that spilled on the drill.
I would contact the nearest service center and buy some new brushes for they are very inexpensive.
Cheers,
Kevin

Where can I get a battery for Black & Decker Drill CD 1000?
This will be a suggestion...but for mine I bought two 18650 LiFePo4 cells (3.7V each) and replaced the original NiCd Batteries. It has been working for many years now, since the original batteries expired and stop working in 2002 (I bought the CD 1000 back in 1994!!!!!). You have to use a special charger for the new ones but they stay charged a lot more and the drill has more torque.
