COATING ON INSIDE OF MICROWAVE HAS STARTED TO COME
Nothing special in there. As long as the paint is not flaking into the food you are ok, Be aware that bare metal could begin to arc. There is special microwave paint available but it will not match and look bad unless you redo the entire interior.

We had a bad power surge during a storm last week
Although lightning damage is normally fatal to anything with electronics inside, you might remove the back panel and look for fuse holders.
If you find one (minimum) or two (likely), replace them (if you have a cheap multimeter you can check for continuity) and see if it will turn on.
You may have to do a little telephone work to locate the high current fuse which is probably 30 amps.
If you live in an area of frequent lightning strikes, investing in a 'whole house' surge arrester makes sense.
These are installed in the main breaker box and any brand I've seen comes with a $10-25,000 insurance policy to replace any dead appliances that fail despite the surge protector.
They cost $150-250 US plus installation which you can save if you are afraid to DIY.

My panasonic microwave model NN
That is called the ceiling cover, also known as the waveguide cover, stirrer cover, or spatter shield.
It will definitely need to be replaced. It provides important
protection for the magnetron.
You will need the following parts:
B20554U00AP ceiling cover
A90804U00AP canoe clip
The best place to order
parts for this brand is Encompass (formerly Tritronics). Or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.We're

Door Key Broke on Microwave Door
To replace the inner part of the latch is actually quite easy. Remove the glass tray from inside, then unplug the unit. Take to a flat surface and stand on edge so that the door will open flat. On the inside is a plastic trim that is just clipped on. Pop this off carefully and you will now see the assembly you need to replace. Note where the spring is anchored to the door before taking it apart. Put a small amount of lubricant on the guide pins of the new catch (petroleum jelly works great).

Bulb replacement
If
there's no obvious removable cover over the bulb (most often on the
rear or side) and the owner's
manual doesn't address it, then disassembly will be required.
You'll need to remove the outer cover (wrapper) to get to the bulb.
Always unplug a
microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.
See these links before proceeding:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt
The
screws you need to remove should be pretty obvious, but a special
driver (such as a T20H type or GTXH20-100) may be needed.
Be sure to put all the
screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding
screws.
Bulbs can be had in most
grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box
or department stores.
Many models use halogen
lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils
will shorten the bulb life.

Door doesn't lock closed and cooking unable to proceed
The spring
is off inside.
Normally the problem is
not the spring itself, but a broken
spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner
door panel.
If it's the door panel,
it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware
to fashion a new spring mount.
The door latch head
(hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.
Normally
you have to separate the door panels as shown in the attached photo to get to the innards.
Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that
demonstrates how it's done.We're

Panasonic microwave 1200
This model uses an inverter to produce high voltage. That symptom is an usually indication of a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron.
I do not recommend that a person without training and experience ever work on these models.
You should be able to locate a Panasonic-authorized servicer here:
http://www.pasc.panasonic.com/WhereTo/FindServicer.asp?Pass=1
I would mention the exact symptom when you call so the technician can bring a new inverter with him when he comes out to repair it. Might save you having it pulled into the shop.
Good luck!

Microwave starts, then shuts off
I highly suggest you look over on google for a Ytube post under metacafe.com for microwave repair, , a professional repair man will take you through the paces of diagnosing a microwave safely, seeing is believing. I suspect your problem is with one of the several microswitches that are usually easy to access and don't require touching anything dangerous, and can cost only a few dollars to replace. This site can link you to parts houses that have model specific parts, the only downside is that they don't have schematics, those appear to be locked up by people who sell service manuals that carry the schematics, so you really need to do as much of your own research as possible. There are other links to sites that carry a troubleshooting list. They state "switches are 75% of the all the problems" people have. Here is a good one: http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/micfaq.htm#micintrlk
I sincerely hope this helps you help yourself, good luck !

Paint has chipped off bottom of MW
Moisture accumulation can sometimes be caused if the cooling fan is not running properly or if the vents in the back are blocked or there is not enough free space around the sides and back of the microwave.
One thing that helps is to keep the door open a few minutes after using it and to wipe down the inside after use.
If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean and dried thoroughly.
Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.
