When using a usb from your computer it is only a trickle
charge to the garmin. Will take a day or two to fully charge. If you use a the cigarette lighter plug that came WITH the garmin, it will fully charge in 4 hours. Stick with garmin approved plugs and all will go smooth. I know, I made the same error.
Why wont my computer recong my garmin
To let a computer work with a Garmen, you need to install software that came with your GPS. On the disk are also all drivers for all known operating systems.
First install the software, than connect.

Need manual so I can print it.
Go to Garmin's website- you should be able to download it from there. One word of advice though; unless you want to burn through about 100 pages of paper or so, I would just save the manual to your computer so you have a "soft" copy.
Now have letters missing and some are duplicated.
