The kit lens has stopped auto focussing all together, just makes a noise every now and then.

Two possible reasons ... A: the ribbon cable which runs from the rear mount contacts to the mid barrel has either cracked or broken (this eventually happens with continued zooming at some point in its lifetime) B: the focussing gear cog has small particle such as sand or broken plastic debris which prevents auto from fixing to focus point. Solution is to try using a blower from rear at full extension to see if it is debris ...or inspect ribbon cable.these are readily available on eBay as replacement spares.

I have been asking for help on my question is

The non-functioning of the camera can be a fault in the shutter, zoom or auto focus sections and may be due to the failure of the Main control system or the drive. A simple was is to reset and we can try by removing the battery and card for some time. Now replace only the battery and while switching power ON, tap the lens hood on the palm of your hands so as to disengage any dirt or mechanism being struck. You can spray a degreasing spray on the lens hood sides and also assist the lens as it tries to come out, attempt to pull it outslowly while powering ON the camera. Also in some cases you can slid a thin film/paper on the lens hood sides to wipe out any dirt.

Tips to open and check for common faults: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2Mj3Qp3xYU&feature=related Use some air to blow between the lenses to dislodge any sand particles struck inside. Unless you are familiar with handling of small devices must you try and open. If so check the voltage on the motor drive check the auto focus and Zoom drives, it must be free with manual movement. If jammed the motor can be removed and released. If none of these works then you can think of taking consensus with the service centre.Get estimate before you decide. It will be good to have it checked at the authorised service as you do not have to run around for spares.

My shutter won't fire using

I could be that your lens isn't focusing. If the Auto focus can't find something to focus on the shutter won't fire. If you are shooting in low light sometimes it has trouble try shooting something that is well lit. also your auto focus point may be somewhere other than the center. there is a button on the top of your camera that looks like this [ ][ ] [ ] [ ]More or less that will switch where your focus point is. If you look in the view finder and see a red dot when you push on the shutter button that is your focus point. push the above button until the red dot is in the centre. that may fix your problem.

EOS 450D/18-55 IS, problems with

Hello,

I had a similar focus problem with a Tamron 70-300 for canon. What can i tell you is that if you o not have experience in this domain you should NOT disassemble the lens because you will have a very hard time to put it back together. Also, it's very hard to allign all the glass lens inside and you may end up in making it worse.
As I see this, you have 2 options:
Either you learn using the camera in Manual Focus mode, which is not a bad idea, in time you cn become faster than the AF :)
or
you can try to find a shop that sells cameras, they may direct you to a service, it does not have to be canon but must be a person with a technical background in cameras and such.

The autofocus don't work anymore

Clean the contacts on the camera body and lens where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

I just bought a Canon 450D and followed the setup

Sounds like you got yourself a defective CCD sensor inside the camera because you should have got output on the file and on the LCD.

Read the advisory from canon below.

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0510/05100602canon_ccdproblem.asp

You might want to also have a camera shop confirm it for ya. But other then that I cannot think of any other problem that would cause this.

Canot open folder

When you removed the card from the camera, was the camera still turned on? When you removed the card from the computer, did you use the "safely remove hardware" function? You may be able to retrieve your pics by taking the card to a Walmart store that has a Kodak picture kiosk machine. It can usually read anything and you can print your pics or even make a cd of them.

Deleted photos

When items are deleted (or card formatted) on the media card, it doesn't really wipe the card, it just removes the indexes, thereby making the space available for future use.

All is not lost UNTIL you overwrite the card with new data.

If the card is freshly deleted.... meaning that no new data write activity has occurred since the deletion, then you can usually recover the pictures by using commercial products such as "Undelete".

These work by recreating the indexes, and are usually very effective if the card has not been subsequently used / overwritten.

Costs and results vary - but if you look up "undelete software" on google, you will be offered an array of possibilities - from freeware (no cost) through to around $50.

First thing to do is to stop using that card until your recovery has been performed.

Photo shops (camera stores, or processors) see this kind of error most days, and will be able to sort you out, if it all seems too daunting.

Hope this helps

Occasionally I get 'ERROR 5' appear on the display

This is a common canon mechanical error.

Most of there SLRS do this the release inside the pop up flash hangs either due to weak spring or release catch itself. If it hangs for even a split second you get error code.

Try This.
  1. Clean Flash Release & Apply wd-40 with a q-tip to moving parts. DO NOT SPRAY INTO CAMERA. Use oil lightly.
  2. Or Assist flash when it tries to p up by lifting on flash gently. Maybe one day canon will fix this problem.
PS this happens to even Brand new Canons.

How old is the battery? They will only take a certain number of charge and discharge cycles. 7d - problem with shots remaining

Maximum for counter is 999. Counter is showing 999 because you have space available for more than 999 shots. If you've got a very large memory card it may tke quite some time to get below 999.
