no there is no magic button, I would replace battery and if that did not work buy a universal remote or Toshiba remote. they are readily available on line.

Bad main board

The SE-R0295 remote was sold with select Toshiba DVD/VHS recorders, including the DVR620. The manual for the recorder will have the instructions for the remote. Here is a board, it's from Canada but with shipping is not to bad priced at $60. I know nothing about the seller so it's possible you could get a defective board. I assume your missing the ps_on signal from the main and that's why the set won't turn on
