Change screen from wide to

Vizio has a set of buttons on the left side where you can access your settings and change the aspect ratio of your TV. Though why you want it changed is beyond me. Wide screen is for 16:9 aspect ratios. At 4:3 (Standard) you won't be using your full TV picture.

My kids were watching our

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

I have a fuse problem

If a fuse is blowing, it's usually caused by a short somewhere and is intended to prevent further damage or a potential electrical fire. It's generally safe to use a fuse rated for ~10% more current, but if it still blows out, I'd recommend taking it in for service. A higher rated fuse will have no bearing on the normal operation of the TV.

Our visio is 3 years old. It was working just

I would try to look on the power supply first for popped capacitors that supply the 24v rail for the backlight inverter.

If you repair the 24v line and check the 5v feed also going to the ps_on (on) the backlight inverter and you still have no picture...you will need a new backlight inverter.
More than likely you will be able to repair the power supply with a 1000uF capacitor or 3300uF depending on the size they used in your model. Also, replace the capacitor with a 35v rated and you will be fine for years to come!

Hope this helps! Please rate :)

Sound but no picture

How is the TV connected? Is it using an HDMI cable or component? If it is an HDMI cable then you should try plugging it into another HDMI port. If it is Component then make sure that the color coded cables are the same on both ends and that they are attached correctly.
It is also possible that your TV is connected through a sound system in which case check the input on the TV and you should be able to fix it.

Power is not on. No

Check that the power cord is attached to both the TV and the wall. If it is, check the power supply to make sure the breaker isn't tripped. If the television is plugged into a working power source you may have a faulty power system on the television and need to contact the manufacturer to replace the faulty equipment.

Can i safely play video games on my vizio

Yes, you can. Modern Plasma, and LCD, TV's don't suffer from the kind of burn-in you used to hear about. There are times when the pixels can become persistent (looks like burn-in) but these pixels will turn back to normal after a short time of normal television use.
So, yes, you can definitely use your awesome 50 inch TV to play video games, :).

I have a 50 inch plasma vizio tv. I was watching

when you here a loud pop its usually the sustainer boards. Have you checked the fuses on the sustainer boards first to see if they are still good. There is a IC chip under the heatsink and when it gets extremely hot it gives. Also check you power supply board to make sure you don't see any swollen capacitors, leaky or bulged out from the top. Let me know if that helps at all.
