42 inch philips lcd no
Sometime a no picture, no sound still has the power light or some other led blinking. The blinks might be an error code that will isolate the problem.
In general on LCD TVs with no picture, no sound, no blink code, the main power supply has failed. The capacitors weaken and when bad enough, damage the power supply.
If there is a blink code, the most, if not all of the power supply is OK and the blink code could point to the problem.

Philips 42plf7422 RANDOMLY SWITCHES INPUTS
There is nothing wrong with the TV I assumes. Have you tested it a hard reset? If not do a hard reset and check. Unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 10 minutes or so. An overnight unplug will be more effective. This must make the TV to a hard reset. If it do not help you, you have to enter its service mode options to make it a factory reset. If you wish to get more details about how to enter the factory mode check this link.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Service mode and alignments to many brand TVs, including Philips models, have been discussed in detail there with illustrations. Pull up older posts there, and surf the site with patience.

Half of my screen is black no picture
If the problem is same with different input devices and you have ensured there are no loose contacts in power outlet, RC jack, cable and sockets, the TV needs servicing.

Philips 42PFL7422D/37 42-Inch 1080p LCD
If the backlight of the LCD-panel does not function, (no picture) then Master and/or Slave inverter are defective. Inverter boards are screwed to both sides of the LCD display, if they have revision 1.2 boards then they will need replaced with revision 1.3 boards.

I have a Philips 42PFL7422D/37 42-Inch that went
Good day Richard!!!Actually sir there's no way of figuring out the screen whether it is good or bad unless you try to test it in actual..You said your unit is working fine now but the screen have cracked right?so you need for that TV from ebay is the screen only?. if that so,it should be the same brand and model for your old one.. If the brand and model is the same..just swap all board such as T-con,main,powers supply and inverter board from the old TV to new from ebay that's it..The only thing you can visually check if there is a crack..But don't worry LCD screen is not like plasma that burnt gone bad even there is no crack on it..LCD screen is not gone bad unless it broke or have crack inside like yours..Hope my suggestion will help you..If you have more queries or clarification just reply to this tread...Thanks for using fixya..
