I am not familiar with this particular model, but I just updated a Garmin that I have. If it can be updated you should have a place for a cable to plug in and also into your computer, go to their website,follow the instructions. Works very slick. I do know it will be hooked up to your computer for 30-45 minutes or so to update. Hope this helps, good luck

You have to be within 50 feet of where you first entered the PIN in order to access the menu without entering your PIN. (Yes, really) Then you can get in and reset your PIN.

There's no way to prove that Garmin is yours, so there is no override. You can't reflash or reset the GPS. You would have to send it back to Garmin.

This is to prevent stolen locked GPS units to be used ever again.

you have same maps on sd card and on garmin internal memory and garmin became confused when you turn it on

The problem with the unit is a minor problem, it simply is that the battery in the unit is not properly seated, so it is having partial contact. The solution is for you to pack the battery properly so its connection to the gps terminals will be tight and stop shaking. You can secure it by padding it with some paper folded together.

try giving the unit a hard reset, this is done by powering the unit off if you unable to turn it off let the power die out. when the unit is off place your thumb in the bottom right corner of the screen then power it on, do not remove your thumb untill the message " Are you sure you want to erase all user data " appears.

If you are using your car power cord it might be defective. Try connecting it to your computer with a USB cable and see if it turns on. If this does not work your GPS might have a bad connection or something is wrong internally. You can try resetting it but take note that this will clear all saved data

If your device is currently experiencing the following symptoms it may need to come in for service/repair:

• The device powers on and freezes at the Garmin logo with no trademark or copywrite info displayed on the device which normally shows up below the logo. The device will not display the Main Menu and will not go into Mass Storage Mode.
• The device powers on and freezes at the Garmin logo and then flashes a white screen briefly. The device then begins a loop of showing the Garmin logo and then flashes the white screen over and over again. The device will not display the Main Menu and will not go into Mass Storage Mode.
• The device powers on and then freezes or shuts down when displaying the Loading Maps screen.

For service/repair of a device due to the three symptoms listed above please select "No - I would like to submit a follow up email" below this article. You will be taken to an email form that you can submit to obtain a Return Material Authorization number.

The satnav can be charged by connecting it to the computer. However that takes approx 8 hours. You should have received a car charger with it. On one end there's a mini USB plug and on the other a plug for the cigarette lighter socket of a car. This charges it in approx 4 hours. There's also a mains charger available which does not come with the satnav. This also charges the satnav in about 4 hours.
The Garmin website has manuals for download for their satnavs in Adobe Reader format. Yours is available at http://static.garmincdn.com/pumac/2675_OwnersManual.pdf
It is the same manual as is used for the 205 but if you look at the bottom of the page it states in small print that it also covers the 265W, among others. There should have been a printed manual with your satnav also but apparently you did not get one. This is a 65 page manual and it is fairly detailed.

If you cannot get your unit to turn off it may be locked in the on position. Please follow the steps below to perform a soft reset on the device:

1. Slide and hold the power key to the on position for 15 seconds

Once the screen goes blank you will be able to turn the unit back on and continue using the unit normally. To prevent the unit from freezing or locking up in the future, please ensure that your unit has the latest version of system software. Please see the following article for update instructions:

Voltage Issue ..... Check your fuse on the Adapter the one you plug into the cigarette lighter.. Also check with tester if you have voltage on the accessory Panel where your GPS are plug

I wonder what's going on with all the Garmin reset and failure to powerup problems during the last few days...it must be the water...

Try these steps for powering up and resetting your unit.

The Garmin Nuvi 265 and most other 200 series GPS receivers are normally reset as follows:

The reset button is located on the right rear-backside of the unit. Press a blunt non-metallic object or a cut off toothpick into the small hole and hold for approximately 15 seconds. The unit should do a fresh reboot. Sometimes these GPS units can be reset by sliding the Power key to the left for 10-15 seconds to completely shut the unit down. Then, do the same procedure for 10-15 seconds again, to power it back on.

It would be best to assure the unit has external power, and hopefully a full battery charge, for best results. Also you can download a complete manual from this link for more info:

Diagnosing dead electronic gadgets with no obvious faults is next to impossible without specialist skills and tools.

But from experience and the possible age of your nuvi 265, the most likely cause of your problem is a dead battery. Although rechargeable they don't last forever, so you may just need to change your battery. It's not meant to be user-replaceable, but if you click here you'll see how to do it. Before attempting this repair though, check whether your model is still under warranty and also click here to find out whether your model is one of those subject to a current recall for faulty batteries.

Note that DIY battery replacement is a gamble: you have no way to find out whether the unit or the battery are faulty until you try it unless you decide to send the unit back to Garmin for repair, and doing so rarely makes economic sense (unless under warranty) as the nuvi 265 is still available at low cost new.
