Here are some basic steps that will help you fixing the problem.

I'm assuming that your unit is dead set without an standby LED light and your outlet is live.1.Power cord - check the cord it might be opened (no continuity).This is due to frequent bending,pulling. 2. Power switch - check for dry joints, open contact. 3.Check the internal fuse- sometimes the fuse fail because of the power surge, replacing with new one will cure the problem, If this is the case I would advice you to use surge protector/AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator). If no reaction and still the unit didn't power up then you have an open parts on the power supply.

4.If you see that the fuse is intact , don't attempt to touch anything because there some fatalcomponents stored electricity enough to hurt you with a simple mistake only. I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the power supply. If you want to repair it yourself make sure that you have necessary tools and test instrument. First check bad solder joints(re-solder all cold solder), leaky electrolytic capacitor(sometimes it has bulged at the top but not all, you better have a capacitor checker), open/shorted regulator transistor/IC(mounted in heat sink), open fusible resistor (caused by shorted regulator Transistor/IC), shorted zener diode.

Also check if your unit is under warranty/extended warranty before opening the back panel, it will void the warranty. Avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free or a little charge only.

There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom (look for discoloration of the circuit board around the base of the capacitor) need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it off and on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the TV, monitor or amplifier will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for some time and then try again.

If you aren't tech savvy, don't worry, read the rest of this solution and watch the videos.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and/or inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are SURE it's only doing supply output ripple filtering,
and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

Your not alone with this problem.
I had to fix mine. The warranty is less than impressive.
The trouble is going to be the Power Supply/Backlight Inverter board.

See if the minus volume button on the TV is stuck. With the TV off press the various buttons while keeping your ears close to them. Each will produce a distinct click when you press them, confirm if the volume - key also produces the same sound - if not the key is defective or stuck.

You can only find out, if you can remove the back cover of the components not working. The best thing to look for, is to locate the fuses located in the power supplies of each component. If the glass fuses are open, and they are still clear, replacement may cure the problem. If the glass fuses contain smoke and show signs of being blackened, you have a serious problem. Power surge problems are very unique. As you say, other components connected to the same circuit or out let may still operate, is common. A blackened fuse will ask you to seek a repair tech. Hi, owning a 42 inch myself i can sympathize, try using your remotes "ZOOM " function-also try going with an antenna plugged directly into the cable connection on back of set-often times the cable/satellite providers programming is for whatever reason downgraded with the "letterbox " format, I know for a fact, have watched side by side satellite's local area channel and over the air H.D. digital broadcast's-the over the air was FULL screen, satellite was " letter Boxed " the networks however do switch back and forth a little depending on programme i.e.: some commercials are recorded in letter Box, while others have stations logo on either side of screen squaring it off. hope this has been of some help, Prodzilla

hi there, fuse is found at the power supply section. I f you can unscrew the back casing and look in the PCB or board the section where the power cord met. It usually have this Bridge type Diode and with some big capacitors. Well just make sure upon returning the screw it is complete and no missed slot to prevent damaging the case when lifting. If you can take a it a part, check the connection of the controller board through your main board and the power supply board. Pull-out all connectors then re-inset, this is to confirmed that there is no bad connection issue from this board. If the symptom still persist this is a time to replaced the controller board. On your Xbox go to System -> Console Settings --> Display -> HDTV settings, and choose a different resolution that you can use with your TV.

Most if not all tv's are VESA compatible. All wall mounts are VESA compatible, meaning you can buy any wall mount you see fit to mount your tv.
I'd look into Sanus brand mounts, they're pretty decent.

Unfortunately the television autodetects resolution and cannot be changed from the remote. The television will need a 720 signal coming in, in order to display in 720 (like an HD source, such as a PS3, XBOX, Blu-ray player, HD Cable, etc..)
