Why won't one turn on with fresh batteries?
Of course this makes no sense. I think the batteries could be installed incorrectly on the 250 radio. Check this, then use really fine sandpaper or a pencil eraser and clean the battery contacts. Make certain they are bright. Do not do this long, just a light rub will do fine. The contacts could also be loose, which you should discover when doing the cleaning. Blow out any grit and if you want to do a really good job, apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol with a cotton tip, like a Q Tip. One last thing, I recently received half a box of dead although new batteries. So, 18 of 36 with 2021 date codes were bad. If you have a voltmeter, also check voltage. Let me know...

Change battery
The black U shaped sides are attached to the back battery compartment cover. Pull down on the U shaped sides and slide this portion off the radio to reveal the battery compartment.

Battery replace
The battery compartment is revealed by pulling down on the two U shaped sides of the radio. This U shaped black part along with the lower portion of the back of the radio will slide down and off the radio to reveal the batteries.

Replace battery on motorola talkabout 250
The U-Shaped sides are connected to the back. Pull down on the U-Shaped sides and this entire part will slide down and off the radio to expose the battery compartment.

Opening the battery door is often a question. The U-shaped sides are connected to the battery cover. Pull down firmly on the U-shaped sides and the whole black portion will slide down and off the radio.

I have old motorola talkabouts..and
Hold the push to talk(PTT) button while turning the unit on, it will talk to you. press PTT to change channel, push monitor to switch to codes, press PTT to change codes. When you have the correct settings press monitor and it will confirm settings.

Change battery
Grasp and pull down on the black U-shaped sides of the radio and this section along with the back half of the radio will slide down and off the radio to expose the battery compartment.

Volume button is missing
This part was never made available for purchase. Your best option is to find an unit for parts. Check/watch ebay.
