My GE JE1640 microwave has the following problem:

What do you mean you checked the door interlocks? did you remove them and take a resistance reading? Or do they look like they are there? I am sticking with the door switches as the problem..

Vent fan

I would be sure the filters and ducts are not blocked. If you recently had a problem with your cooktop lights, that can affect the fan, too, but that can usually be economically repaired.

Jmc8100ad microwave oven no fan, no heat, no turntable

This is most likely a bad door switch or mount (usually the bottom but occasionally the top) or a defective relay or connection on the circuit board, which can be repaired.

Our microwave looks and sounds to be operating

If it sounds normal and not heating, you may need to replace the magnetron. this is a very common problem and normally occurs from the overheating of food.
if the microwave is making a gumming noise, then the diode needs to be replace.

Microwave works with the door open

The top door switch is almost certainly defective or loose. Most likely the latter, and possibly due to a loose or broken mount. Chances are that only the fan and light are on, but it's not wise to take chances with microwave energy, whuch can cause burns and fire. One way to possibly test this theory is to pull up gently on the door and see if it stops doing it. But that's not a foolproof test. A broken or loose mount can be caused by inadequate plastic or improper assembly techniques during manufacturing, by slamming the door, or other physical damage. Bad door switches are usually caused by opening the door while it's cooking instead of hitting the STOP KEY first. I have a helpful text file on door switches with safety tips that will help you. You can find it by searching on Yahoo.com (not Google) for microwave safety.txt Good luck and be safe!

GE JE1640WA problem

Chances are you have a bad primary interlock (top door switch) or its mount is damaged or loose.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If the switch mount is broken, it's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

(Your mini-manual may show that your primary interlock is the bottom switch, so go by it)

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.
