If you are trying to import a ms Word document into print artist, they may not be compatible. Try saving the word document as a .txt file and try opening that or importing it in this manner. Sometimes you can just open both programs at the same time and highlight your text on the word doc, right click and select copy ,then paste it into the print artist page.

Hi Joni703:
I would recomend running your old Print Artist 8 in compatability mode, since you are dissatisfied with the new programs. to do so, install the program on your windows 7 system, if you have not tried already, and right-click on the corresponding desktop shortcut. When a menu comes up, left-click on properties. at the top of the properties window, click on the compatability tab. Next, click on the check box labeled "run this program in compatability mode for:" and pick the system you have used Sierra Print Artist Platinum on previously. It should function normally.

If a program cannot be run under Windows 7 because of
compatibility issues you have to right click on the executable file that will start the application and click Properties.
Select Compatibility tab and select the Windows XP version.
This should work but if it doesn't there is nothing you can do except complain to Sierra to make a fix for it.

Had to redo computer and reinstall. PA 4. won't install.
I found a solution for installing Sierra Print Artist 4 on XP at this site
http://forum.oldversion.com/programs-support/5831-printartist-4-a.html I did it, works great!
Posting below, thanks to izzy_eckerslike :
"""There is a way to force your computer to load print artist 4
Click on display /settings & reduce colour quality to 16 bit & reduce your screen resolution to 800X600
Then insert the Printartist disk & select install, as before you
will see the Sierra logo on your taskbar but it won't move or do
anything.
Now put your screen settings back the way they were before & you
should see the install screen jump off the taskbar so you can access it.
It will test your computer & tell you it fails as it can't
recognise newer technology but ignore that & select 'install
anyway' & all should be working"""
