Canon PowerShot SD780 IS / IXUS 100 IS Digital Camera Questions & Answers
Canon power shot SD1200 IS elpf won't retract
This is a delicate operation but you can try this: tap the camera lens up on a towel over a hard surface (counter top or floor) while you expect the lens to retract as in turning off. It may be enough jarring force to get cams back in the helix that moved the lens. Hit it hard and flat. IF that doesnt work, try tapping the lens down while it tries to retract. I have heard that people get so frustrated with it that they slam the camera lens up on a desk and that fixes it!
Canon PowerShot SD780 - Salt water damage
Taking it apart and cleaning it is not going to fix this. White rice may remove excess moisture, but does nothing for the salt. You can't clean corrosion that has already begun. As the camera is not currently working, the damage has already been done.
My canon ixus cannot switch on
Make sure the battery is charged. Check the battery door switch and that the battery door fits tightly. You can see the door switch through a cutout in the door frame. It is very small. You can usually bypass it if it is broken. First you have to figure out if it is always on or always off when the door is open. If it is always on then just remove the switch. If it is always off (and turns on when the door is closed) then solder a wire to connect the switch's contacts so that the camera thinks the door is closed.Note: this solution requires precision soldering and experienceOther possible causes: blown fuse (usually found near the DC in plug), main circuit failure
Transfer pictures from camera to computer
The best way to transfer pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa.

I have a Canon PowerShot
Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:
