Canon EOS 500D / Digital Rebel T1i Digital Camera Questions & Answers
A 500D camera does not
First of all, un-signed questions will attract few or no help so next time do it right.
Secondly, your camera needs service. You can't do much on your own so send it off to a service provider.
My rebel T1i won't take pictures on AF
If you have a specific zoom lens on and it will take shots in MF manual focus but wont in AF auto focus you could have a broken ribbon connector in the lens. Try with another zoom lens if you get the same problem it could be the camera. If it works OK then the ribbon in the affected lens may need replacing.
My built in flash pops up but does not flash on my canon T1
Looking from the back of the camera, look at the sliders where the hot shoe speedlight would fit in, there should be a small pin it could bet stuck down take a very small screwdriver and move the slider down and up to release the pin. If this does not work it will have to go to Canon,
Reset on canon 500 D
Find the function in the menu the says remove all camera setting Use this to get back to factory settings.
Flashing blue light on back of camera and it won't turn on
The little blue light on the bottom of the back side of the camera is the memory access light. As long as the light is on, or is flickering, you should not open the battery cover or the memory cover. You definitely should not remove the battery or the memory card as well.
If the light is flashing, it can indicate the camera has problems accessing the memory.
If it continues, you should switch of the camera and remove the card. Then check in an external memory card reader if all pictures are still there. Get all pictures from the card and backup to a computer. Then do a format depending on the size of the card, FAT12 FAT16 or FAT32. Replace the card and let the camera format the card again.
If you do have another memory card, first save all pictures to the computer, only then put the card in your camera to check if that card works better in your camera.
If you need to recover pictures from your card, because the computer can't read them, there are enough recover programmes around on the net. Lots are free.
Canon EOS rebel T1i says no card
There are a few possibilities, A the pins where the card inserts into the camera are damaged, or you have 2 dud cards borrow another you know works. And also insert the card that does not work and connect camera to computer and see if it connects. If nothing works its back to Mrs Canon for repairs.
Flash does not fire
Does flash pop up? Does the little electronic flash symbol appear in the LCD when it charges? Really not enough info in your post.
A few thoughts:
If the flash will not pop up check the external flash detection pin in the hot shoe (located on one side under the spring, which can be popped off with a knife blade or similar). If this is stuck down the flash will not pop up because the camera thinks there is an external flash in the hot shoe.
If the flash pops up and you get an 05 error or it makes a clicking noise and you get an 05 error this usually means sticky liquid spillage around the flash. It needs to be disassembled and cleaned and the pivots lubed. Squirting WD40 on the flash WILL NOT SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. NEVER SQUIRT WD40 IN ANY CAMERA!!!!!
It the flash pops up, and the little electronic flash symbol comes on, but goes out when you push the release button it usually means the flash board is bad.
If the camera has been impacted, then either the flash tube is cracked/broken or one of the wires that goes to it or the trigger coil may be broken inside
Circuit board
replace the front circuit board but make sure first the battery door and card door switches are working properly (assuming you have a no power problem)Canon stopped using fuses starting with the XSi model
Flash delays and says busy
Charge battery or try another battery. The camera says busy when the flash is charging. If that doesn't solve the problem then you may have a bad flash board, capacitor, etc. If it says busy all the time, that is an indication of a main circuit failure. although you mostly see this on the XS.
How do I correct Card write protected
Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.
