Hello sawyer. Turn on the camera go to the menu and find the reset function. Reset the camera. This will bring it back to the factory settings. That should solve your problem unless it is a dusty or broken shutter. IF the reset does not solve the problem you will have to take the camera in for a cleaning and shutter adjustment or send it in for one. Do not take the camera apart yourself as this will void any warranty you may have. Joe
How can I buy a new lead to download to Macbook?
You might want to consider buying a card reader instead. They should be available at just about any department, electronics, or office-supply store.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo management program.
How can I delete individual images from my camera?
Press the review button to view your images. Navigate to the picture you wish to delete then press the delete button, it should look like a little rubbish bin. The camera will confirm the delete, so navigate to "yes" and hit [OK].
You should refer to your instruction manual for any further questions about using your camera and navigating its software.

Although your manual des not say what the maximum time is your shutter can be open, try the M setting on the main dial.
Then you an chose time your shutter can be opened. On my powershot the maximum time is 15 seconds.
If that does not give you what you want, try the scene mode for fireworks, because then the shutter should be open several seconds too.
