I have recently installed the software update as requested and now i am unable to read the books i have already downloaded to my kindle

log onto amazon.com and click help. Then click on device support. in left column you'll see contact us. Click there and fill out info about problem. You can get answer emailed but I recommend the call back service. Usually doesn't take long and they will talk you through the problem. I notice a couple of people on the site have had problems with the updates.

Not charging. Says 0% charged even when plugged in

Sounds like a hardware issue. I would contact Amazon or wherever you got it from. They might give you a new one if you bout it relatively recently. You can also replace the batteries, Amazon sells them for all models.

I just got a pdf book from the National Academies Press. Is there away I can load it into my Kindle for easier reading?

If you own amazon account and have it connected to your device, you also get an e-mail adress in format "[email protected]". In the settings of your account you can set your usual adress to be able to send files to your kindle e-mail. After you have your adress in the whitelist, you can send any file from your e-mail to your amazon e-mail, and it will automaticly be downloaded into your Kindle. Note please, that pdf file is imported like images, so you only will be able to zoom, but the size of the page will remain constant.

My American Express Card validity date expired. I have entered a new Card Number with a valid expiry date but I am not able to pay with it as it has not come up on the Kindle

Go to amazon.com Below the address bar you'll see 'Your Account' Hover over that and click your account from the list. It will take you to a sign on screen and connect you to a secure server. From the list find payment methods Under that click manage payment. It will bring up the kindle wallet and you will see your card listed. click the arrow on the right side and then click edit at the bottom of the box that shows your address info. You can then change the expiry date and confirm it. Also check if that is the default payment method.

Trying to register it

My first kindle was the 2nd generation. It was already registered when I got it. The best thing I can tell you is to go to Amazon.com Under the address bar you will see "Your Account" Click Your account at top of list. One right side of screen click kindle help home, next screen Left side click Contact us. Fill in the info under call me. Someone will call you back and talk you through it. They are a breeze to work with.

Thia Kindle has been registered for years, now it's not and I cannot get it to register again. Does not recognize my Amazon password.

Is it possible that your password was reset or changed? A good test is to try and sign online with a computer and check that the information you have is correct. If not you can recover your user name and password by clicking "I forgot" button below the sign in form.
