DVI and HDMI are the exact same signal, except that DVI doesn't include the provision for audio. Essentially the problem you're having is that you have the monitor set to auto input rather than HDMI input or DVI input. Setting the monitor to not look for any input you plug in and defining the input should cause the hunting wait to be eliminated.

Had the same problem with mine. Annoying as can be. Then again, I got it free because of that....The solution is actually very simple: take a knife and remove the menu button, take a pliers and remove the little black button. Done. (If you can, get the settings to be acceptable for your use first!)Down side is I haven't found a way to adjust the settings after that, but you can still switch between HDMI, VGA, and DVI fine. Probably more technical fixes out there, but it works quickly and it's free to do in less that 2 minutes.

Have U tried to install the latest videodriver ( from the vendor, not Microsoft).
How did U connect your screen? VGA? DVI? try and change these
Try to factory reset the screen and see what happens, i would do this in this sequence

your on the right track with the video card could need reseated, make sure is set to default in bios, when you get into windows with it pluged in to the onboard vga can u look in device manager to see if its showing up in there and isnt malfunctioning, then again it could just be bad electronics go out all the time

i would go to asus or computer manufacture's site, or microsoft and find and download the driver manually. Then install it by double-clicking the downlaoded driver file.
I also recommend right clicking on screen, go to properties or display properties, and only use the windows 7 them and not a modified or customized theme.

Good choise, I have two of the VW series and one of the PG series of asus monitors myself, all doing great so far, the PG is atleast 2 years old soon, others are around one year.

no problems yet I hope these work long.

Look for a program called Sound Booster or one called DFX. DFX is my favorite because it not only boosts the volume, but lets you add other effects to enhance you sound as well. There is a free version. but to get all the effects you have to upgrade to the paid. If audio is important to you, check it out.

Try going into sound select and test reinstall driver off Asus website..if you installed new windows or update drivers may not work right...see if you can roll back driver in device manager ..if not lookup your laptop model and reinstall...
