Dear Linda, Good news and bad news. Good news first. Here are the things to check, in the order of "most common to least common". 1) Lid switch ( cheap plastic, easily broken, most often the problem.) 2) Thermostat switch, there are as many as 6 on each machine. 3) Blown internal fuse, there are as many as 3 on some machines. These parts are not awfully expensive. Bad news: By all means, when you take the machine all apart to check all these, clean the whole insides, and do not be surprised and the "shoe-boxes" full of lint you may get out of the tubes.
