Asked about a problem with the spin cycle. Was told the problem was in the control board. Could not find it in parts Would that be the same as the dial for selecting the wash cycle

The dial is rarely broken. The cycle and the times for each part of the cycle are control by the main control board. If your spin cycle isn't working it might be the control board depending on what exactly the spin cycle is doing. The boards are usually kind of expensive (about $150). You can take the chance and buy a board from an online place like: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/search.aspx?q=control%20board (which gives returns if you have the wrong part). First of all though, you should go to YouTube and type in "replacing a control board for a GE washer" and you will get plenty of troubleshooting and instructional videos to help determine which part actually is failing, and to get that repair done Good luck

When starting the spin cycle it will not spin until I push the knob in and pull it back out. It will then go through the rest of the spin cycle.

To fix that you would need to fit a new control board on the machine. Probably not worth the cost though.

Washer and dryer both running.

It sounds like you have two different problems. First, we will look at the washer. The lid switch that is in your washer is famous for coming apart. Take a small flat head screwdriver and press on the switch. You should hear, and even feel the switch engage and disengage. Let me know what you find.

DRYER SPINS BUT DOESN'T GET

Purchase a Fluke 10 or some other easy to use multimeter which will not blow its own fuse if you use it wrong and learn how to use it. Electricity can not be seen with the naked eye. A multimeter provides a numeric rendering.

Washer and dryer stackable unit.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the sight. You need to make sure your drain hose is not clogged up or your hoses are not damaged. You need to check the water pump also. It may be clogged or leaking from the pump area. Make sure the tub is not cracked or damaged, causing water to run out. Your best bet is starting the washer while you are viewing the hoses and the pump. You should be able to find the leak this way.

Dryer runs but does not got hot, therefore does

The Most common problem is a bad thermal fuse.

1 the thermal fuses are located in the cabinet of the dryer under the drum
they can also be located on the front of the blower wheel housing. on the back wall of the dryer or along the heating element can.
2. some kenmore, whirlpool machines have these fuses located in the rear of the machine.especially when the lint filter is located in the top of the dryer.
3. the heating element can also be bad.
4. if you have an ohm meter you can check the continuity of the thermal fuses,as well as the heating element.if there is no continuity on any of the above mentioned parts. Replace the faulty parts.

Water won't drain and won't restart. Could it

Sounds like your lid switch need to be replaced. If the lid switch is defective, the washing machine may not agitate or function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it. Here is the part you need.

Overflows when filling

The problem is the pressure switch has failed or the hose is plugged up, has a hole in it. These are usually inexpensive and are very easy to replace. Here is a video this will walk you thru testing and replacing a pressure switch. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. All parts come with installation instructions. Not all models are available. There is also a link there that will show you how to remove the front panel to acess the hose on the pressure switch.

You should bne OK to lay it down on its side - either one. Just make sure you line the pickup with some blankets etc so that you dont ruin the paint on the journey.

Washer wont drain....

try the lid switch with a screwdriver in the slot to see if it activates. Mine did the same thing, would agitate but not empty nor spin and it was the lid switch assembly--a 35.00 part that cost 150.00 to repair with a repairman!
