My seams pull apart

Sounds like a tension issue.

Check your tension units and thread guides are clean and free of lint....a rag moistened with methylated spirit (denatured, surgical etc) run between the disks will help.

Normal factory tension setting = 3 for all dials although resetting this style of tension unit is, frankly, awkward, so if it ends up being other than 3, don't worry too much, just write it down somewhere handy.

Start with all at tension 3 and try using 4 different colours of thread and sew a scrap to see the balance of the tensions to more easily locate any that are loose.

Ideally, the 2 needle threads should appear as secure dots not at all "loopy", while the looper threads should meet neatly at the edge and be a firm join without pulling at the edge on one side or the other.

Get the needle threads right first, then small adjustments to balance the looper threads....after a few adjustments you will probably have it back to normal.

If you want any more help with this, just drop a line through the "Contact Us" page at www.bargainbox.com.au

Serger

With the door open, the needle plate removed and no threads in the machine, slowly turn by hand one or two revolutions & take a close look at the motion of the loopers and the needle/s, are they colliding, or is the needle becoming jammed by the black guard surrounding the lower looper ?

Ensure there are no threads or fabric debris jammed anywhere.

If it is "new" and under warantee, it would be worth a call to the dealer asking for their advice and see if they will take a look at it for you........arrange to meet with the technician if possible.

Lower looper

It is impossible for a looper to come unthreaded if you are holding one end and the other is still feeding off the spool. Somewhere a thread broke - must be either the upper looper or the needle. Try completely re-threading your machine. Many machines have an "order" they prefer to be threaded. Try starting from the right tension guide and work to the left.

Babylock BL4-428 Serger

I think I would get another opinion. Sometimes you run across lazy technicians or those who would like to talk you into buying a new machine. Of course, if your machine is older, it could be difficult to locate replacement parts, but getting that info from another technician will confirm the first opinion.

My Janome 204d Serger won't form a chain

I would suggest that you check the needles again, make sure they are both fully up into the needle housing. Also they should be at different heights in order to form the stitch sequence. It is important that you thread the loopers first in the sequence shown in your manual, then the needles. So you may need to recheck the threading again and make sure the threads are in all the eyes correctly, especially the lower looper. Also some overlockers, have a sliding eye on the lower looper for ease of threading, if yours does, make sure it has been slid back to normal operating position. When you have checked the threading up, take all four threads under the raised pressure foot and make sure that the upper looper thread and lower looper threads are not crossing over each other. Lower the pressure foot and try to chain off again. I hope this helps you to resolve the issue.

What would a 8 yr old 634 janome serger be worth.well taken care of and clean?

At this stage, the value is whatever the market will bear. Their is no real value in 2nd hand sewing machines or overlockers. Try looking on ebay for some guidance. Good luck

Best huskylock stitch to sew Lycra sports clothing

Im not familiar with the huskylock but I use woolly thread on both loopers with good tension and less than a medium length on the needle stitch and using the differential feed. Try u tube as there are several good links for sewing stretch.
