they will be air in the gas line , and the pilot injector being so small it will take ages for gas to come through , you need to purge the gas line undo a union or nut or pilot suppy to purge the line of air test joints after with soapy water .

That may have an oxygen sensor on it and if it gets dirt in it that will happen...
Take apart the pilot assembly and blow it out with high pressure air and then reassemble it...that should fix it...

We have a new gas bottle and new connection valve
IF YOU ARE SETTING GAS VALVE TO PILOT AND PUSHING DOWN BUTTON AND NO GAS TO PILOT YOU MY HAVE CLOGGED PILOT RESTRICTOR WHICH IS AT END OF PILOT TUBE WHERE YOU LIGHT PILOT ,REMOVE FITTING AND BLOW OUT DIRT. MOST RESTRICTORS ARE HARD TO GET OUT, JUST STICK PILOT IN SINK RUN WATER IN HOLE AND BLOW OUT WITH AIR PRESURE. DRY BEFORE RE -INSTALL. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HERE HISS OF AIR BLOWING IN HOLE WITH LIPS.

If the unit has a venting system, the manufacturer has paid lots of money to make sure the vent products are being vented to the outside. You may find a UL or AGA stamp on the rating of the heater proving it passed the test. It does not account for any installation errors or any deterioration of the venting system over time and you should have your system checked every year. If the unit is vent-less, you can be assured that you are breathing in all sorts of toxic byproducts. A CO detector is a very inexpensive investment for your safety

The banging could be a sign of a failing gas valve or an indication of an air adjustment. The best efficiency you can get out of this heater is about 65%. The best thing is to replace it with a Rinnai ES32 which will give you 82% efficiencies (read, less money to run if you pay the gas bill).

Many pilot issues of various sorts that I see are caused in some way by the thermocouple. The thermocouple senses the heat from the pilot to prevent the pilot from running gas into the room without it being lit. If the pilot is dirty (the flame will appear small or irregular) it will barely heat the thermocouple and may go out. If the thermocouple has come loose and isn't correctly placed, it also will not heat correctly. If the thermocouple is ok, I would suspect your gas valve. Let me know if you need more help with this.
