Do you have it set for a different pattern such as zigzag? Check to see what you have it set on.

try going the the site a1sewingmachines.com and call them andask them if they have the part you need.

on a PC hold down the control key and add the "P" key.
on a Mac hold down the command key and add the "P" key.

change the needle
rethread the machine-make sure to get every thread guide
make sure the thread does not come off the thread take up lever
clean under the needle plate where the feed dogs for lint
also clean the bobbin area for lint & loose threads

check the bobbin winder if it is pushed in to the winding position it wont sew no matter what elseyou do. Do you have the manual if so in the back there should be a phone number to call for a technician to assist you

Are you maybe stuck between two different stitch patterns? Check your manual for troubleshooting. If, you don't have your manual go to brother-usa.com and download one for free. They also have a frequently asked questions there. 1-800-276-8437 is their customer service help number.

According to page 18 of the manual, the only place the thread could be catching would be the tension discs or the uptake lever.

Lift the presser foot and run a heavier thread or flat, unwaxed dental floss through the threading procedure to see if this will clean out a thread that may have jammed into the discs.

Always thread with the presser foot up and make sure the uptake lever catches the thread.

If this continues, take the machine to an authorized Brother dealer for service.

the flat side of the needle shank faces away from the side of the needle eye that you thread through. In other words, if your machine threads from front to back, the flat part faces towards the rear of the machine.

First I have a couple of questions..

2) do the feet just snap on to the base of the presser foot??

Hi, the only reason I can think of is that it might be the fan belt that moves the arm that is causing the problem. Best to take it in to a professional to look at it for you. Good luck
