Sounds like a bent needle shaft, take it for service to get it straightened. Or, if you know a machinist, they have the tools to determine how much to bend it back so that it is straight. I had it happen years ago when I lent my machine to my niece, she used the straight foot instead of the zigzag and bent mine. I was lucky because my husband was a machinist and had the tools. Good luck

check your top thread tension, set to 3 or 4

ihave singer 7422 I have change position from cleaning hook area and feed gogs .I thing the needle to its position change after remove the bobbin case

Page 19 has how to adjust the tension of the thread
There should be dial to which you can turn to adjust up or down your tension , use a piece of scrap fabric to ensure it is set at the right tension that you need ..
The upper thread tenison wheel is located on the left side of the machine above the needle ( top/front of machine shown on their diagram of the machine as #5 )
