My Sony BDP-S550 blu ray

Hi jason_pri778,

This seems to be a consequence of either a dirty lens , or a bad lens in your Blu-Ray Player.

  • I would recommend you to get a disc cleaner , and clean the lens of your Blu-Ray player by playing the cleaner disc in your drive.
  • an e.g. of a blu-ray disc cleaner is in the below link :-
  • http://amzn.to/kYp7yh
  • Now , after cleaning your drive's lens, try to play a disc in your drive and check if it works, if it does, then your problem is resolved.
  • If still the problem persists , then I would recommend you to get your blu-ray player replaced if it's under warranty/guarantee or get it repaired if it costs quite less than a new blu-ray player.

Hope this helps ..:) Your feedback would be appreciated.

I am trying to play Date Night in my blu ray. I

Remove the disk. Go into the player's setup menu. Disable BD-Live. You may also need to clear the player's memory (maybe called cache, but depends on your manufacturer and model).
Now insert the disk and it should load right away and play normally. This is happening because new disks are trying to use the internet to connect to a server to download new features for the disk (that's BD-Live). This would be cool, except that in some cases it causes this freezing problem where you can't even watch your movie.
Firmware updates don't seem to fix it--at least not yet. So far this seems to be a combination of a coding issue on the disks and perhaps firmware that doesn't know how to deal with the new code. Please post a reply if it works for you.

VUP 0/9 KEEPS FLASHING DURING FIRMWARE UPGRADE NOW

I had the same problem when I made the mistake of trying to do a firmware upgrade via CD-R instead of the Network option. My player is no longer connected to the internet so I created a CD-R following the directions on Sony's site. The CD-R attempted to do the upgrade, but was stuck at 0/9 and I could hear the disc trying to read. The problem is the disc you created. You need to make another one. On the Mac, I used the Finder to burn the disc per Sony's instructions. That is what failed in the player. My second CD was created with Roxio's Toast Titanium, PC/Mac Data CD-R. If you have Windows, I would suggest using a commercial burning CD program, like EasyCD Creator and burn the two update files to the root level of the CD. Make sure the disc is finalized.
Next, you need to open the player to manually release the tray to eject the CD and swap it with your new disc. Remove the two back screws on each side. This removes the two side trim panels. Remove the two screws holding the top trim panel on each side. Then slide the top trim panel from front to rear to release the panel. If that doesn't work, open the CD cover door with your finger and then gently pull up on the top panel at the front edge to release the clips along the front, across the entire front edge. Then slide the panel back to remove it. Then remove the three screws at the front edge, and two more screws on each side. There is also one screw at the rear top edge. Remove the top panel. Then get a long paper clip. Looking at the front of the player, the manual eject hole is on the right side of the optical drive. Above the hole is an E engraved above the hole. Insert the paper clip straight into the hole and you should be able to push the release mechanism causing the tray to open. You might have to fish around a little. Slide the tray open and replace the disc with the newly burned disc (or obtain a disc from Sony for free through their website). Close the tray. You can leave the player open. Plug in the power cord and the upgrade will continue where it left off. It may take a minute or two, but you will see the VUP advance to 9/9, then finish. The tray will open and you can remove the disc. Close the tray and the player may reboot again. Once you see the No Disc message, turn off the player and pull the power cord. Reassemble in reverse order and reconnect your player to your TV and it will have the new firmware.

My sony BDP-s550 has a green tint to all dvds we

Just another thing to check that may take a few seconds.. Are you using componet video cables on this dvd player? If you are, check that all 3 video cables are plugged in, you may even want to unplug the cables and plug them back in. If you have a spare componet cable try that as well to make sure it is not a cable issue. I have been to many homes where just 1 of the 3 componet cables was just unseated or had a broken cable.
