I just hooked up my Sony DVD Player DVP-SP200P and when I put a DVD in, there is a loud humming sound heard. What could cause this?

It could be here the motor inside that loads/unloads the disc. If unit is opened try to localize where the sound is coming from--is it from the motor or the mechanism?Replacement DVD players are real cheap now so maybe.........

Will play for a while then picture freezes

HelloIts mother board should be suspected. There is an IC, wich is not a repalceable one, processes all video and audio signals from the laser pickup unit. If the fault begins after some time, this IC should be suspected, as it will heat up to an extent. If it overheats, due to some inteernal circuit faults, the problem you describe can occur.Just contact an experienced service technician, or the Authorised Service Center for Sony at your town.

Hi,this is a very complicated isssue..Not All DVD discs Play In All DVD Players
Nothing has impacted the home entertainment world quite like DVD. Players and movies have been flying off the shelves worldwide as prices keep falling and consumers keep buying. With superior picture and audio performance DVD has spurred growth in home theater exponentially in recent years. However, along with DVD's worldwide success, comes its dirty little secret: region coding (also referred to as region lock). ...........see link.....

http://hometheater.about.com/cs/dvdlaserdisc/a/aaregioncodesa.htm
--------------------------

Please Note: Some DVD players have an internal switch setting that allows you to choose the country code. Others have this option hard coded. You may find a lot of advice in newsgroups as to how to by pass this feature. Just be aware that this will always nullify your warranty. I don't track hacks or modifications. You may want to try a site that specializes in these things such as DVD Region Hacks. Again, please be warned, you can ruin your player if your apply any unauthorized modification to your DVD player. You can try contacting the manufacturer they often will help.

Hope this helps!
Take care and please
