How long does battery last
It varies but makers of this equipment and other items as well tend to buy a cheap quality battery when making several thousand units, a tidy amount can be saved. To answer your question most of the batteries I see fail are around a year or so old.

When powered up the 6.3 amp psu fuse blows any
Replacing a blown fuse once is necessary, twice to be sure that the first had reason to die, then no more as you could be damaging something in addition to the failed part.
This indicates that something basic in the power supply has turned into a wire.
The first thing to check would be rectifier diodes that process the incoming AC; these are cheap and easy to check with any multimeter with an Ohms or diode setting and should measure a bunch in one direction and little in the other.
With a diode check range, you should find ~ 500-700 millivolts (units are not indicated), on the Ohms range from several hundred to maximum 1 K Ohm in on direction and off-scale in the other.
Beyond that, you will find possibly discrete transistors or a module (on a heat sink for both) for which you will need the pin-out to roughly measure it.
The type numbers are a mix of letters and numbers, the production period will be only four numbers so you need the type number to search for the specs and connection diagram.
If these check out OK, then I think your technician days are over and it's time to let a pro look further.
Be aware though, the cost of labor and the potential lack of parts availablity can stop the repair completely so if you can't find something already mentioned, like too many things today, it is doomed to the scrap heap.
