My Kenmore front loading washing machine leaves black stains on my laundry. The inside of the machine is clean and the stainless steel drum is in new condition. I suspect the rubber door seal is starting to rot and is the cause of my problem, but it is supple and I can see no obvious signs of deterioration. Can anyone suggest any other cause and/or a solution? Are these seals available, are they expensive and can a slightly below average handyman remove and replace them?
bob, if your model starts with 417. this is a mother of all jobs. The black marks are coming from the rear bearing assy. in the tub. I just changed one out and it is misery. I don't believe the boot is causing the black marks. When I tore this one apart I found the tub, tub to drain pump hose, pump itself, contaminated with this black crap. Replaced them all. The tub and bearing comes as one piece and it is no fun to put in. The whole washer has to come apart to do this job and it requires two men to do it. The boot (bellow)itself is a pain to install. You might want to check with Sears and see if this is covered under the 5 year warrany on the bearing and tub, parts only, if not, it's not worth the time or money..Catriver..post back.

I get brown spots on white shirts after washing
If it's gunk or build up the marks should wash away. In this case run a long cycle using "affresh" or "washer fresh" with an empty load and use the hottest water available to help rinse the gunk out.
If the marks do not wash away, it could be grease due to a bearing failure. Listen for loud growling or grinding either by spinning the drum by hand or putting it into a spin cycle. If this is the case, the rear tub assembly (contains bearing) will need to be replaced. Not much can be done about the ruined clothes :(

What does EFO mean on my Kenmore Front Load washing machine?
EFO is not a Kenmore Error Code.
Zanussi & AEG EFO = Filter Blocked (low flow) and it is accessible from the bottom front of the machine.
1. there is a blockage in the filter or drain hose.takes too long to drain out.
2. over dosing of powder or liquid. again can cause an air lock in the pump which slows the drain pump down.
Check the filter and drain hose and test again. this fault will only come up at the end of a cycle.
You do not need to reset the machine to get rid of the fault code as this is automatically deleted.

When the cycle starts, the water comes pouring out of the soap dispenser area. When we quickly pulled it out, we noticed that the water was not draining down into the washer fast enough and was backing up out of the soap tray. We have heard about a lot of clogging issues with this washer. There are no authorized service providers in our area. We need to know how to access the water drain (into the unit, not the drain out of the unit) so that we can check for clogs.
My LG front loader is stopping during the drain cycle (making a humming sound as if it is trying to drain, but can't....What can I do?

Can I take off the front panel of a Kenmore/Whirlpool washer to change the bellow?
Removing the boot will require that the front panel, door switch and console be removed.
To remove the front panel first remove the three screws securing the toe
panel to the front of the washer and lift the toe panel up slightly
pulling it forward.
Next remove the two screws securing the top front panel to the washer. The front panel can now be removed.

kenmore front load washer not draining
You may have a drain pump that is either clogged or failed. The following link explains how to checkthe pump for clogs:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574284-checking_the_drain_pump_on_a_front_loade
It doesn't take much to cause irreparable damge to these small drain pumps. If the motor or impeller become damaged and will not pump at the required volme, the washer will not drain and will shut down. If the pump no longer runs, you may have to replace it. The following link explains how:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574350-replacing_the_drain_pump_in_a_front_load
Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:
searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com
Prices vary between these sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites on the list also include helpful exploded view prts illustrations to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you need.
If you have any questions about this repair, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.
NOTE: If this a a smaller style front loader, you may not have a clean out trap on the pump. This style washer usually has a large rubber inlet hose that you remove to clean out debris. Drain any residual water, then remove the large hose from the pump. Debris commonly gets caught in this area just prior to the pump impeller.

The water drains, the tub spins both ways slow and does not increase speed. Therefore at the end of the spin cycle the clothes are sopping wet. I have tried the spin cycle with the drum empty and it spins fast. I tried it with very few clothes in tub and it won't spin fast. Any suggestions on repair? Thanks
tyr removing the lower acees panel from the uint , ther is a "button trap" located there to catch debris from entering pump assy, chances are its clogged and if it cant drain all the water it wont go into high speed spin, also you MUST use an HE detergent. HE detergent specifically designed for front loading washers

Hi my Kenmore washer is making these loud thumping noises when it starts to spin cycle (when draining the water form clothes). It seems its gradual as well, the faster the spin the louder the thumping so I think the drum is hitting up against something inside. This had happened before some time ago with the same machine, we just put too much clothing and overloaded the drum and put stress on the motor perhaps, gotten a repairman to fix it didn't say clearly what part of the machine was broken. Now its making that same noise again would appreciate any advice or solution.
I just went through the same issue with my Kenmore front loading washing machine. I assumed (and a Sears repairman also told me) that it is the bearings. After I took the drum assembly out, I saw the rear drum broken and the inner tub hitting the outer tub. I ordered the outer drum assembly and only when I took the inner drum assembly out I realized the the "Spider" attached to the inner drum (and spindle) was broken. Entire drum assembly cost $417 + shipping and it may be cheaper in the long run to buy a new washer. I like the front loaders because they save water and good for the environment, but the US manufacturers have not yet perfected the technology like European manufacturers (or they don't want the machines to last too long just like cars). Anyway, I am looking into welding the spider tomorrow. If not will return the outer tub assembly and buy a top loading washer for $300!

I have a Kenmore Front Loading machine and for some reason the fabric softener has stopped draining. The same amount of fabric softener has been in there for a few weeks now, so I don't think that any water is washing it into the machine.
We had the exact same situation with the fabric softener not draining and here is how we fixed it. Turn the water off first, then remove the water lines that bring water into your washer. (They are near the top.) There is a screen in the end of the line, do not remove it, but take an old toothbrush and brush the gunk out and clean it as best you can. Do both the hot & cold sides. The screens keep any debris out of the washer, so after a while it collects and slows down the water intake time (has your washer been slow to fill also?) Screw back the lines, making sure to put the hot and cold back as they were originally, then test that they do not leak. Put your washer back in place and viola - problem solved! I hope this works for you, and good luck!
