How can I defrag my Dell optiplex760?

How to Defrag a Dell Computer
1. Open the My Computer window. To do this on a Dell computer, click on the "Start" button at the bottom of the screen. Then, click "My Computer".
2. Choose the hard disk drive that you want to defrag. Locate the section entitled "Hard Disk Drives." In this section is a list of hard drives on the computer. For most Dell computers, the hard disk drive you will want to defrag is Local Disk (C:).
3. Right-click on the hard disk drive you want to defrag on the Dell computer. If you want to defrag your C: drive, then right-click on "Local Disk (C:)". A menu bar will appear.
4. Click on "Properties." "Properties" is the last option on the menu bar. This opens the Local Disk (C:) Properties window.
5. Click the "Tools" tab. The Tools tab is the second tab in the Local Disk (C:) Properties window. The tabs are located on the top of the window.
6. Click the "Defragment Now" button. The "Defragment Now" button is in the Defragmentation section of the window. This opens the Disk Defragmenter window.
7. Click to select the disk drive you want to defrag on a Dell computer and then click "Defragment." For most Dell computers, this will be (C:). After you click "Defragment," the Dell computer will first analyze the disk drive you selected and then beginning defragging the Dell computer.
8. Wait for the "Defragmentation is Complete" message. If you have not defragged a Dell computer in a long time, then the defragging process might take a while, even as long as an hour for very fragmented Dell computers. Allow the Dell computer to run the defrag until the process is completed. You will know that the Dell computer has completed the defrag process when the "Defragmentation is Complete" message appears.
9. View the defrag report and then close the window. If you want to view the defrag report, click "View Report." Otherwise, click "Close" to close the window.

Where can I get a replacement for my 2 front usb ports on my optiplex 760..they are not working??

I've never seen 2 front USB ports that were bad. I've seen 1 that was defective because the USB device that was plugged into it was broken off. However in that case it caused the power supply to short out and prevent the computer from powering on. Here is a link to your model:ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_optiplex_desktop/optiplex-760_Service%20Manual_en-us.pdfIf the USB ports on the back of your computer work then the front ones should too unless there is a connector dislodged to motherboard. All USB ports use the same circuit.

Restart problem

Its not that simple. What were you doing before you got the BSOD? Did you update any drivers?? Did you install any new programs? Did you change any hardware? Did you physically move the PC? Open the Box, make sure everything is seated properly, specially the RAM.Make sure all the power connection's are tight and not lose. Respond with your findings and lets see if we can get you back up and running...

I have dell optiplex 760 core 2 due,i notice that when i worked on internet my computer automatically restart after some time,,,,,plzzz tel me solution

Check whether the CPU Fan is working (try to listen for Fan noise). This is typical of CPU overheating. Detailed Memory Test can be performed during bootup to prevent PC from even booting up if there is a memory fault. There are free programs on the web to run detailed memory tests. You can use these to verify. However, one simple method to verify is to put a small fan on the air vent of the Dell and check whether your PC still has the symptoms. If it does, then the problem is not CPU heating up.

How to wake Dell All in One, Win 7, from sleep mode

In Windows 7, there is a bug, if you put the PC in sleep mode when the system is running on batteries then it may still drain out the batteries and you cannot wake it up. In this case, you need to connect the AC power and reboot the PC. If you put the Pc to slepp when the AC power was connected. Then there are no issues and just by pressing the enter key it should come out of sleep mode. Sometimes - depending upon settings - you may need to press the Power button the PC to wake it up from sleep mode. If you have already tried all this, then please go to the Power settings in Control panel and check all the setups that exist. You may need to change some of them.

Icant log in my computer.when log in,with in few seconds it logging off automatically

If running XP

A log-on loop on your Windows XP computer is a difficult situation where the computer never completes its boot cycle, restarting intermittently ad nauseam.

This issue indicates a major problem with the boot functionality of your XP system.

Restore the computer to working order by utilizing the repair and restoration utility on your XP system disk.

Insert the XP disk into the computer.

Restart the computer.

Press any key when prompted to boot from the disk.

Press "Enter" at the first screen and "F8" at the license terms.

Highlight the drive containing XP and press "R," repairing the operating system boot files and removing the log-on loop.

orWindows XP sometimes has a glitch when you are logging in to your user account in order to boot the operating system.

The glitch logs you in and then logs you off the account.

This problem is usually caused by one of the programs that load during the computer's start-up.

Fixing this issue is a matter of ensuring that whatever program is causing the problem doesn't start up as soon as you start your computer.

or

Power on the computer and allow it to get to the user logon page normally.

There is no need to start up the computer in "safe mode."

Click the user who is having the issue and type in the user's password if one is set up.

Press and hold the "shift" button on your computer keyboard as soon as you see the tool bar load up at the bottom of the screen but before any other program has a chance to do so.

This stops any "Startup" program from running and logging you off.

Right-click the "Start" button on the bottom left of your screen.

Select "Explore" from the menu that appears.

Double-click "Programs" from the list on the left side of the window that pops up.

Double-click "Startup."

Select all the files inside the "Startup" folder by dragging a box over them.

Right-click anywhere on the selected files.

Select "Delete" to delete those files.

Note that deleting the programs from the "Startup" folder does not delete them from your computer.

All this does is make it so that these programs no longer start as your computer is starting so that any error in the running of the programs doesn't interfere with logging in to your account.

Hope this helps

Where does a dial up modem go in a Dell optiplex 760?

The dial-up modem would install inside the computer in a PCI slot. VERY easy to install but a couple considerations before doing so... There are different sizes depending on whether the OptiPlex is a mini-tower or small form factor case. Also - you would need drivers for the modem that are compatible with the operating system you have installed on the computer.

Computer won't come out of sleep

This problem occurs due to various reason: too many software on your startup or your C: drive is full or may be because of virus. You can do a couple of things: 1. try freeing up your C: drive space, delete unnecessary things and leave at least 15% of space free. 2. Defragment your C: drive, Go to start and write Disk Difragment and press enter. Select C: drive to defragment it (do #1 first) 3. Turn off startup program. Go to start and write 'msconfig', a window will appear, click startup tab where you will find list of software name, untick the software you don't need then apply to restart.( Caution: This step is not recommanded for someone who knows what they are doing).

No signal on monitor

Sounds like a bad video card or bad monitor. Check the connection to and from the monitor to the pc. If the monitor power light turns on, Then I would suspect the problem to be the video card.
