Cannot connect to iomega storcenter ix2 with second computer
Confused dot com.
You say it is directly connected to your first computer, not through a router.
That may be your problem.
Try connecting it to the router. Putting it in the same network as your group of computers, and run the finder software on each pc.

I have the Iomega ix2
At the back of the drvice there is a little reset swtich, located just above the rear usb port. Take a small object (eg. a paperclip) and press the button for 4 seconds. This should reset the password and disable the security.

I have just bought an Iomega Strocenter iX2 but
The IX2 doesn't have white indicator lights. The IX2-200 does which would mean that the device is healthy and ready for use.
Since you are directly connecting it to your imac via ethernet cable which is the only way to connect to the device as the USB's are hubs.
First make sure you computer is getting an APIPA address 169.254.x.x (x represents randomly generated numbers by the computer), do a factory reset (depressing the reset button on the back for 4-5 seconds) which should restart the device, open a Terminal window (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal) and type (without the quote marks) findsmb and hit enter. You should see your device populated on that list and you should also see an IP address associated with the device. Open an internet browser window and type the devices IP address into the address bar without the "http://" in front. You should have access to the device now.
At this point you will want to statically (manually) setup an IP for your device with your networks subnet. Once you statically set the IP. Disconnect it from your computer and put it on the network.
Good Luck.

I lost the connection to
first be sure that the lost connection is not a cable thing ...or a power cable ...than ...after you have tried another...and still do not work ...just open and remove the bios battery or clear cmos from the jumpers if it is visible on the board...
this will make it see all new stuff again ...
also may try to run add new hardware wizard from the controls...and make it visible if it was disabled for a reason ....sometimes they are if some bad-s are detected...
restoring the default settings from the bios might help to see them too...also check the jumpers for the position that the Hdd is on ...I am referring if you have made changes recently and it is in a master position now ...and it was as slave ..you have to make the changes on the jumpers...in case it is an ide cabled...
if it is a sata ..try to see if the raid drivers are not damaged...
