How do i reset the
There is no need to pull the radio from the dash to reset. There is a reset button above the aux in put behind the usb door. You will need a paper clip or a tip of a ball point pen. Once reset you will need to reprogram all of your setting (FM stations, clock) as this will wipe out the memory. To remove the radio from the dash will depend on what kind of car its in. Some (Toyota, Niss.) use the factory brackets to mount in the dash. IF this is the case the dash will need to be disassembled. For the kit installs you will need to remove the trim ring around the outside of the face of the radio. Then the keys will be inserted on each side of the radio releasing the clips then the radio can be slid out.

I just installed the radio in my dadge dakota,
If the wires are all connected and you have no sound then it is possible that there is a factory amp in the vehicle that needs to be powered up. I can't tell you the what/where/how because you failed to mention the (all important) year of the vehicle. If it is a newer Dakota, the factory amp turn on is CAN Data and you will need a specific module.

My KDC BT742U recently went into protect mode
What has happened, is the bump has caused a broken joint on the pcb I have seen this many times in my shop. You need to take the actual unit in for repair, I mean the "Bump" and the "Problem" are indeed connected, and this is exactly what happens.

Kenwood kdc-bt742u flashing protect and no sound
If protect is coming up on the display, it means the system is detecting a short somewhere on one of the speakers and so is turning the amp off to avoid damage.
Check all the connections at the back of the amp to ensure they are not shorting, and at the back of each speaker, if nothing is found there, check each wire for damage, or a bare wire touching the body of the car
