Canon PowerShot S90 Digital Camera Questions & Answers

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Canon ZoomBrowser or any other photo cataloging program.
Zoom function won't work
Check for any minor obstruction in or around the lever. Somethin as small as a grain of sand may be jamming it.
Communication error
I had this problem with my Canon Powershot S90, had a really full memory card, deleted a few photos, turned camera off & on. Plugged back into mac and it worked. Assume something to so with limited space left on the memory card did not allow comms to be established.
Will not focus at a distance
Is the camera perhaps set in macro or manual focus mode? I've made that same mistake myself. If it is in macro mode then you will see (somewhere on the display) a small icon of a flower. If it is in manual focus mode then you'll see an MF icon.Hope this helps
S90
if the camera makes all the sounds whilst trying to pop the lens out then you may have to get it sent to by Canon. I had the same problem with my old Powershot and it cost me nearly as much as a new camera.
Monitor display malfunction
If the rest of the camera functions work fine then this sounds like an internal problem to do with the electronics. if the camera is still under warranty then a trip back to Canon might be in order.
Cannot get movie camera off the DISP setting
hi LisaI found this about getting rid of the "disp" setting. If you want to the colour bias, tap DISP while you have the White Balance selection active. Tap it again to remove it, making sure that you have the White balance active.Hope this helps

If not, then you can upload on of your images taken with the camera to this website which will then display everything you want to know about the camera including serial number, lens used, date, time and any copyright info that may be present. The website is here:

Lens protector stuck open
A stuck lens cover is a fairly common problem, but it is normally easy to fix. A single grain of sand jamming the cover mechanism is normally the culprit, and you want to try to dislodge it. There are many non-invasive techniques that people have come up with to accomplish this. Some may be seen on this blog article. You can also open the lens barrel up to fix the covers, but only as a very last resort.
This article provides further information on correcting this problem.
