A popping sound is indicative of an electrical arc over. A capacitor is the probable source. Although you camera runs on 6 volts, the electronic flash fires at a much higher voltage. Circuitry in you camera boosts the voltage and capacitors often are used to double that voltage. Capacitors do not last forever. Your problem is that the L110's is an older and not a high value camera. It may be more expensive to have repaired then a new replacement will cost. If you know electronics and camera mechanisms you could take a crack at fixing it yourself, but the chance of your success is probably low.

Turn your brightness up. I had the same issue so I went on the menu and turned the brightness up. If this isn't it then you may have to contact a professional. Good luck

Your camera is SDHC compliant, so the card should work in your camera. There are two things you must do. Check if the Lock "switch" is NOT in the lock position and second before using the card in your camera, you should format it in the camera. Although FAT32 is supposed FAT32 for every device, camera's can be very "picky" when it comes to formatting and saving pictures.
