Nikon Coolpix L22BLUE Digital Camera Questions & Answers
My nikon l22's camera battery door lock is broke
Hello - You could call Nikon parts department: Though I don't think Nikon considers that a user replaceable part...It can't hurt to ask. Or you could find a local Nikon dealer and ask them to replace the part. It's hard to imagine them charging you the regular service rate of $xx per hour to do a five minute fix. Myself, not being tidy by nature used some commonly available Velco to strap my older Coolpix battery door back together...but it's not pretty 8^).

How do you download
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.
You can download the current versions of all (free) Nikon software from

How do i clean the
I use long cotton swabs. You can usually get them at any pharmacy for about $3. Wet it with vinegar and rub the contacts. Don't have it dripping, that would get things inside wet. If all the crud doesn't come loose, turn the swab around and use the stick end. After you have it cleaned, use rubbing alcohol on a clean swab to remove any vinegar residue.

It can handle as much memory as you throw at it, one SD/SDHC card at a time. SD cards max out at 2GB, SDHC cards max out at 32GB. When one card fills up, you can remove it and insert another.
Eventually you'll want to transfer your pictures to a computer's hard drive for printing, emailing, or whatever.

The auto exposure setting tries to average the exposure to that of a typical snapshot scene, which in a predominately dark setting means that it over-exposes, lightening the picture overall. You need to use some form of manual exposure setting or exposure compensation. This will require experimentation to get right. I am not sure what exposure modes your camera offers.
You could start with altering the EV value if your camera has that setting. You are aiming to underexpose the shot from what the camera thinks is the "right" exposure. If you have a manual exposure mode, you can alter the exposure using the appropriate controls to less than the camera suggests. Some cameras have spot metering that will allow you to select a portion of the scene that has average lighting, press the shutter partway, then (still holding the shutter button part pressed), recompose the shot to what you want it to look like before pressing the button fully. Some cameras have a bracketing mode that will take multiple exposures each side of the average, giving you one that is right and several that aren't. Luckily, on a digital camera you can try any or all of these until you find a method that works for you without it costing anything but time.

You can order the manual from

There's no SD card in the package because Nikon doesn't know whether you want to use an SD card or an SDHC card, or what brand, or what speed.
