Quasar SP-2722 27" TV Questions & Answers
TV Picture reduces to a narrow horizontal bar
The vertical sweep output section circuit to your TV has the fault. Might be an IC failure, or with some loose solder points at the solder terminals to this IC. As it will be very difficult to detect the exact dry-solder point, it will be best to resolder all the suspected solder terminals to this vertical output section, by applying a little more solder to each terminals, without making any solder bridge short in between adjacent solder terminals.
10 yr old Quasar 25in color tv. Audio is ok. No
Don't have specific knowledge about this model but the problem is in your vetical o/p section an is fixable.
In general read below.
This is an easy repair if you've ever soldered and would not be too costly for a repair shop to do it for you. The problem is a bad Vertical Output IC (usually mounted on an aluminum heat sink with the part on it labeled LA78?? ) and 1 or 2 bad capacitors. Some times you can even fix the problem by re-soldering the contacts of the IC- To find the IC follow the 4 wires that come from the Yoke (which is a contained coil of wires slipped over the neck of the picture tube(s)) back to the board. 2 of the wires go to the horizontal o/p and 2 to the Vertical o/p the thinner gauge wires are for the vertical.
Making sure your tv doesnt shock you
Yes!!
Possibly as much as 26,000 volts @ amperage sufficient to kill you.
If you are not comfortable working with such voltage, please seek the assistance of a professional.
Shrinking picture
All symptoms indicate a problem in the vertical circuit, the first thing to look for will be loose conection on the vertical output IC,sometimes this IC goes bad completly and it needs to be replaced. If you are familiar with soldering electronics you can take care of it but if you are not too familiar you can play it safe and take it to a servicer ,it will be a lot less expensive than if they come to your house.Let Us know how it goes or if you need more information.
The t.v. has too much color
First set the color to 0, the TV should be in black and white. if there is a purple or rainbow color then your tube may be failing. Most default settings are when everything is half way(centered). If this dosen't correct the issue than there is an issue on your main board.
Broken Electron Gun?
Pls do not jump to hasty conclusions! 'Electron guns'do not break!
It could be a simple problem like a faulty CRT base! Or perhaps the Blue Output Transistor is faulty!
First ask a good technician to have a look.
If he confirms that the Blue Cathode is faulty, then I advise that you get a new set.
1977 CRT TV wont turn on
Not sure why anyone would want to repair a non hd TV as the picture quality isn't usable with modern content but if you're doing it because you like restoring something vintage here are some ideas. Some CRT sets use a pulse from the back side of the flyback transformer as a starter voltage supply, it needs this short pulse to start the power supply, it's kind of like starting a gas motor, the starter only runs for a short time then the gas motor takes over, this signal needs to be measured with a scope or a high end meter, this was a common issue with a lot of older CRT sets that use this type of power supply. I'd look at the start up supply as without that the regular supply isn't operatable.
I have a Quasar 50in model number sq5000
Your EEPROM is bad, if you can find one and have soldering skills and the equipment to remove and replace SMD devices that's the cheap way to fix( $15) if not replace the main board, in your case with the sound issue it may make more sense to replace the main as that should correct that isue as well
