Datamax DMX E4203 Printer - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Printout not align and faults indicates led lit up
The Media Sensor is not seeing the labels or is not configured for these labels. Check Media Sensor position and settings. The Fixed Sensor models have a small window for the sensor at the bottom of the printer, about 3/8" to the right of the left side. If the printer has a movable sensor, the typical position is either 1" to the right of the left edge of the labels, or in the center of the labels. Typical media sensor setting is "Gap Mode". Another common issue is that the sensor might have a piece of label or something stuck to it, covering the lens. Finally, there is a possibility that the reflectivity threshold may need to be recalibrated (see below). This can be difficult, although there are instructions in the Operator's Manual. If physical position/clear view of labels by sensor doesn't seem to be the issue, an easier way to deal with settings issues might be to Restore to Factory Defaults (see below).
Datamax E-Class Auto Media Calibration Procedure:
The 'Auto Media Calibration Procedure' allows the operator to
automatically obtain the optimum (TOF Low and TOF Delta) values for
a particular media. These values are useful for media that continues to
have troubles after Media Sensor has been manually calibrated (usually
preprinted media). This operation feeds 10 inches of media using the
current Media Sensor Calibration setting and calculates the TOF Delta
and TOF Low values to be used. Upon completion the printer will exit
back to 'Calibration Mode' flashing the PAUSED light if successful or
the FAULT light if not successful.
Note: Before calibrating, be sure the media sensor is set for the
appropriate media type, see section 4.4.2, also be sure the
printhead is latched down and the cover is closed.
To perform the Auto Media Calibration complete the following steps:
1. Load the desired media.
2. Hold the button while powering up the printer. Continue to hold
the button until the PAUSED light turns off then release.
3. Next press the button, (the printer will now calibrate to the
media)
4. The PAUSED light will flash 5 times to indicate a successful
calibration. The FAULT light will flash 3 times to indicate an
unsuccessful calibration.
Note: If you wish to discard your changes and revert back to the
previous calibration simply turn off the printer before Step 5.
5. Now you can save your changes and resume by again
pressing the + buttons simultaneously.
Datamax E-Class Reset to Factory Defaults Procedure:
With the printer off, press and hold the F1, F2, and F3 buttons while
turning the printer on. Continue to hold the buttons down until the
PAUSED light turns off. The printer will now be set to the 'Factory
Defaults'.

Not supported
No, you do not need a proprietary Windows program for Datamax E4203. But you do need the correct driver. You can download them for free - see the link on the
Able Label Systems Thermal Printers page. Follow the links and look for the Datamax download. This may or may not solve your Checkpoint error message, but it is all that is normally required in order to enable standard Windows-based programs to access your E4203.

DATAMAX E-4203 ONLY PRINTING HALF OF THE BARCODE
I doubt the sensors would have anything to do with only printing half a label. I'm not familiar with the E-class series of printers, but the common causes of that problem that I've seen before with the larger M & I class printers can be:
1) A piece of label or ribbon is stuck on the printhead.
2) The printhead is not seating properly on one side, causing the printhead to be too far away from the label & platen roller to apply enough pressure in order to print.
3) A printhead cable is not seated fully somewhere and not supplying the signals properly to that half.
4) The main logic board is bad.
5) The printhead is bad.
6) There is a software problem or label configuration setting that needs to be corrected that controls the print width.

My datamax will not print labels even though it
if the printer seems to function . and when your queued label printes, but no text on label, check to see if your driver will do a test print to the printer. if it does, check your fonts. Some Dmax printers will have a difficulty using TT fonts, especially in serial coms.. Try the printer fonts(datamax0, 1,2,3,4.

Regarding Datamax E-4203 - Won't print
Check to see that the label sensor is over the gap in the label. It is just under the head on the right hand side.
You might also have the unit configured incorectly. If you go to the Datamax site, you can download the printer config program, It is easier to use than trying to push the buttons in the correct order to configure the printer.
Also use at least a 6" long label, and print the config file to see if you are set correctly for gap mode if using die cut stock.

DATAMAX PRINTER
Hi
Its worth checking that you are using the latest drivers. You should be able to get these from the Datamax website. Also check the printer set up, gap sensor etc. Also check the media is loaded correctly. Hope this helps. Regards Stu www.labelzone.co.uk

Hold in the Feed button for 4-5 seconds, which causes the printer to attempt to "Auto-calibrate." If that doesn't solve it, then slide out the Media Sensor (green plastic bar that sticks out over the labels) about 1 inch from all the way in ("in" = left if looking from front). Then press Feed to clear errors. If still get same error, then look for piece of label or ribbon stuck in that error - ok to blow out with canned air. Then try holding in Feed again for 4-5 seconds to Auto-calibrate again.
