Nordictrack treadmills stink and so does their customer service. Depending on exactly when your mom bought the machine there is a small chance that there is a warranty. In the back of the manual it will list the warranty info. Check that with the date of purchase and see if any parts are covered. If they are then call Icon (the manufacturer) immediately. If it isn't under warranty then you are pretty much out of luck. You'd have to replace the console which is at least $500 but could easily be over $1,000.

What your seeing is a common problem which I encountered on 3 separate displays. I have since diagnosed the problem and am currently life-testing a working solution.The real problem is very poor design of the negative voltage generator circuit for the display contrast. Everything else is working fine except that circuit. I have designed and installed in my treadmill a replacement circuit that is much stronger and am currently testing it.[email protected] for more information

1) Adjust the reed switch , clean it, and tigh the wires connectorsee the diagram2) RUN the software calibration after you fix it, for diagnose, troubleshooting , fix it.3) test the fuse for blown and replace, use the VOM, or c.breaker reset.4)test the input voltage motor, with a VOM , if there are voltage, the motor need attention. tight any wires connector to the motor very well see the diagram5) measure the output voltage board, for input voltage motor, if there are NOT voltage , the board is faulty. tight any wires connector for loose, or bad contacts. see the diagrama IF doesnot resolve the problem call to the suppliers for warranty of the board of another parts, or service.God bless you

sorry but i dont have a solution for you!! i bought the t9ci back in nov of 2008, like you none of the buttons worked had to wait till march of 09 for nordictrack to send me a reprogram card, which did not fix the problem. i then recieved a new console, in april 09, which stopped working in feb 10. a service tech came out and had no clue, so the sent another new console which did not work. in march 10 they sent a whole brand new treadmill, and when i got on it last week the console was not working once again!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope you dont have as many problems as i did

there are two things involved. 1. it's either the screen of the T9ci is defective or 2. the T9ci has developed a power problem.

Screen:

The screen might be defective or the screen inverter or the screen flex.

One of the three above mentioned is a possible cause of the blank screen problem on your T9ci.

If you want to do this yourself, you need to disassemble the T9ci, check the screen part and see if it is well fixed and has not loosed contact in any way.

Power:

The screen could light up and yet, the T9ci has a power problem. If there is a shot on the power supply board, there won't be full current circulating in the unit, thereby making the screen blank.

If you want to fix this problem yourself, you will be needing a ohmmeter and continuity test to read the power part and the screen part to actually find out the cause of the problem before a solution can be proffered.
