Famous Trails Discriminator Ii Metal Detector by - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Md 3006 metal detector
Try hitting the reset button to center the needle in the meter then adjust the sensitivity knob to lower the sensitivity. Double check all your switches to make sure they're where they should be.
Finally, remove the batteries completely. If they're not alkaline, replace them.
If none of this helps, check the web to see if Famous Trails offers customer service or technical support. If they do, contact them to see if they know how to solve the problem.
The third option is to take it to a local electronics repair shop. The circuitry on metal detectors, especially the low end ones like Famous Trails, is not terribly complicated and a good electronics guy should be able to fix it fairly inexpensively.
Be sure to get a repair estimate then weigh the cost of repair against the cost of replacing it with a new one.
I've had this happen to my low end metal detector and when I went through all of the original set-up steps, I was able to clear the problem up myself.

Bought a famous trails metal detector and when
I have a metal detector similar to a Famous Trails.
This would indicate that your sensitivity switch is set to full high. Try rotating the sensitivity switch to the center. There should be a button just below the meter which, when pressed, causes the needle to center.
With sensitivity set to mid range and the needle centered, the buzzer should not be sounding unless the coil is near some sort of metal.
Make sure all of the other knobs, if any, are also centered.

you need to use the tunning to adjust for any interference.. place it flat on a surface that is free of any interference.. then turn the tunning knob until u hear it go high pitch.. push the reset button until it centers out..it takes some practice..use different kinds of metal until u can tune it on the sound .. the higher the pitch the better the chance its worth digging for...good luck\

- Place the pad flat on the ground and then turn the tuner kuntil it centers in the middle ..push the reset button several times until it is in the middle on the dial..then place a ring or something that is the only thing ..do it on a table or etc where u wont have any interference ..such as pipes or metal in the floor. practice going from one object to another until you can tell the difference in how the tone changes..the higher the pitch the more chance of it being a solid hit.. use the discrim to adjust for such cross pickups from such things as wiring or pipes..etc..
- good luck
