Pentax Optio 60 Digital Camera - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
New laptop does not have a disc drive, can not download disc , is there a FREE solution? I have software #
You don't need the Pentax software.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program, such as the free Picasa (
http://picasa.google.com ).
I have no disc drive, to download the dics I have for my optio 60 camera, I have the software #, are there FREE solutions?
The Pentax stores its pictures on an SDHD card, which you can then remove. If you don't have an SD slot in your computer, you can purchase an adapter that connects to your computer via USB. You can find them at Fry's or Microcenter, or Newegg or Amazon. Even Best Buy carries card readers and adapters. If you are unsure of what type you have, bring your camera with you into the store and ask a sales clerk to help. (Preferably, go to a Microcenter, where you have a shot at finding a clerk who knows what s/he is doing!)
