Sure, blame the kids. Could it have been a sporting event and your team lost? Just kidding, dump the screen and case. Sell the boards on ebay.

Turns off itself And the red light blinks twice
These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power led, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. Viewing it in "
Mosaic" will make surf easy.

Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.
I bought a sony led
Here is a manual for your unit http://www.docs.sony.com/release/KDL40HX800_qs.pdf
As far as watching a DVD, I wasn't sure if your TV has a built in player or not. If you have a built in player simply insert the DVD and change the input channel to DVD. If you do not have a built in player, check to see how your DVD player is attached to the TV. Insert a DVD, then cycle through your inputs with your Input or Video Source button until you see the DVD playing.
Hope that helps!

Tries tv unplug, replug it back about an hour later for tv to do a resetting itself back to the factory setting. The tv now should be working again. If tv still have the same problems, the tv power supply board is the causes and the problems. That the board where the power a/c cord plug into it.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole new refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
On a 5-mo old Bravia
Yes, its lcd panel defect. Since tv is 5 months old so it would be under warranty, call Sony on number written on warranty papers to get warranty cover OR lcd panel replacement would cost you approx new tv price.
Thanks.
My kdl-55hx800 will occaisonally power
There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom need to be replaced.
Each time you turn it on, eventually it'll probably stay on, but every time you turn it off, the TV will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
You may also notice a clicking when it power cycles when you first start it up.
If you aren't tech savvy, don't worry, read the rest of this post and watch the videos.
If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are positive it's only doing ripple filtering, and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).
Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.
I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same issue) on youtube.

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors.
This problem is not brand or model specific, it's affecting many!
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.
Sony KDL55HX800 question about the
Hi,
Dynamic Contrast Ratio details are written in Specification sheet of KDL-55HX800 as follows:
"Dynamic contrast ratio compares the luminance of a 100 IRE (white) signal with that of a 0 IRE (black) signal. When the TV receives a 0 IRE signal the backlight is turned off and the luminance measurement is 0.00 cd/m . The resulting dynamic contrast ratio is infinite."Click
Sony Support link to download specification sheet of this tv for more info.
Hope this will help.
Thanks.
