No DVD drive will recognize.
try a different brand, depend on when the CD was made, some of the Verbatim CD are no good for any reader.
the laser in the newer CD or DVD reader is mroe sensetive than before, any defect or coating defect will render the disk unusable.

Can't find printer on network
1.How are you attaching to the network printer from your daughters computer? IP address, or by the name of the printer...Also make sure you check you are attaching to the network printer, and not local printer.
2. Install the Microsoft TCP/IP version 6 protocol on both computers by clicking install on your LAN properties, then restart PC. This should work!

Can't run downloaded programs, open user accts,or some services.
check to see if your on the administrator account. it could be something on your computer preventing you from using doing anything like that or could be the local policies that have changed. Try saving the downloaded programs onto the desktop and then just go to the desktop and try to run it from there

IE doesn't shut off completely when I turn off my comp. wind task comes up as not closing, so do it manually
Some people have experienced this very frustrating behavior. There are some steps you can take to determine the cause and correct the situation. After each step, you may wish to check the behavior.
- Run the Disk Cleanup utility (available by going to Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools) Make sure you have checked the Temporary Internet Files and Temp files.
- If it needs it, Defragment your hard drive.
- Visit Windows Update and make sure your system is current. Run a custom update and check for any available hardware drivers & firmware for your system. (It is not necessary to install IE8 at this time. In fact, I'd recommend waiting until after you resolve this issue.)
- Frequently these lock-ups in IE are caused by add-ons to the browser. Please follow the instructions in this article to troubleshoot your browser add-ons.
- You may have outdated hardware drivers that are causing conflicts on your system. Please follow the instructions in this excellent tutorial to update your Windows drivers.
- There is excellent advise given in this post; please apply whatever is applicable.
- Use the Internet Explorer self-help tool available by clicking here
- Remove older versions of Java with JavaRa available by clicking here, and update Java.
- Update your Adobe Reader & Flashplayer by going to http://www.adobe.com/downloads/
- Check for malware and spyware. Consult this protocol and use this tool

Saving files before uninstall
Just put the PowerPoint CD into the drive. An autorun program should automatically start the PowerPoint installation program. From there, just follow the instructions on the screen. You should not need to change any of the default setup options.

Installing drivers
Hi thewaysofthe,
There are plenty of site that offer free downloads to update drives, but all they really do is download the software examine your problems, and then ask you to pay for it to be fixed. So, what I would do is go to your control panel and click on the system icon. In there you'll find a hardware tab. Click that on and go to device manager. Then go down to the sounds, video and game controllers, and if the driver is missing then you'll see a ! in a yellow triangle. You can ask windows to reinstall the driver by right clicking that ! icon and choose install or update driver. Follow the instructions and it will walk you through updating the driver.
If you don't see a ! on your sound device, then perhaps there is something else that is wrong. Check to see if you have it on mute. Check to see if the speakers power button is turned on. And lastly if all else fails, try and reboot again. Sometimes things just magically fix themselves on a reboot.
Good Luck,
And don't forget to leave a rating on my solution.
