Rar files are compressed using a program called WinRAR. You can get WinRAR
here, but it's not free. They offer a demo version you can download if you just want to use it a few times. An alternative is
7-zip, a free, open-source program that can uncompress RAR format files as well as many other formats. Once you uncompress the file it will be back to its original format.

Windows XP Media Center edition... get a
This should a simple fix to enable Messenger if you have your XP disk handy.
Go to "Add/Remove programs"
You will see an add/remove windows components, or something similar.
If the Windows Messenger box is already ticked, untick it and OK it then exit out and go back to this.
Now Tick the box. It may ask you to insert your CD.
Once done, OK it again and restart your PC.
DONE.
If this still causes issues, try downloading Windows Live Messenger (about 175MB) and run it directly from the website. Saving to yourPC has issues and often does not work.
I'm not really clued up with Xbox and other game boxes, so all I have done here is to activate Messenger in one format or another on you PC.

Items i download wont show up after its done
I am not sure if you are referring to torrent files which are just reference links to the actual file you are downloading. If you are referring to the actual downloaded files it is most likely that they are stored in another location other than in my documents/my downloads. the location that you want your downloads to be stored can easily be changed. Xp will save it to the last location you asked it to so if you saved it in my documents it will be there, if you save it in the temp it will be there, if you want to know for definate then just download something and when says save it will bring up the location it is saving it to..if on the other hand instead of hitting save you hit run then it will save it to the temp folder.

My Windows XP Media Center computer can't
unplug it (data cable), start the computer, when loaded to windows shut down again and plug the drive back in. Also try a different port if you can. Drives don't last forever and they are very cheap so if you can't get it to work get a new one.

I cannot access the SYSTEM RESTORE and the DISK ERROR CHECK funct
Open the Services applet via running a Microsoft Management console... Run - services.msc and make sure the System Recovery service is running. You may also need to temporarily disable Bit Defender. By the way, I don't think giving out your email address to a forum is a good idea.

Reinstall XP without losing my data
you can backup important files with an external USB adapter for your drive, you'll have to use a working computer to connect the drive from the other computer. When you are satisfied you have a backup, try the windows repair OR re-install windows xp using the "upgrade" option, it should leave all your files in place. Don't do a factory reset if you have that option unless you're sure everything important is backed up.
